Infinite Deadly Islands Of Terror

by Hamumu - Competition Entry

This is a flash game, made with Flixel, so enjoy in your browser of choice! Instructions are inside when you click on the big "HELP" on the title screen. That sentence seems extremely unnecessary but there it is. That sentence too really had no value. I'll quit now.

Ooh, here's something worth saying! I got online scores built into it before release, which makes me pretty awesome, so if you log into your Dumb Account at http://hamumu.com/ before playing, it will record your feats of skill.

I kept my journal at http://hamumu.com/journal.php (feel free to check the timestamps if you want to verify what was in the compo time!), so click on over and bear witness.

Interesting stuff right here. Love the visuals and audio. Movement is a bit sludgy at points but overall it's a fun experience to play!

Really sweet game. I did get bored after a while, but I guess that's a natural side-effect from the infinite levels feature!

The graphics are very nice, but the collision detection with the tiles kept tripping me up, because it seems to go by the pirate's shadow rather than his (more noticeable) head.

I really liked the bridges mechanic as a way to change the layout of the map.

I think it's fun.

Also, the camera can't keep up with my leet speed. This happens a lot with Flixel games for some reason.

Nice little game with cute pixelly graphics. It's a bit too random though, it feels like once you have seen the first island you have seen them all, and the luck factor of where the things spawn is important.

Very interesting and professional. Seemed like a real full-fledged rather than a hurried 48 hour one.
The lack of music would be my only complain...

SpaceManiac says ...

Very enjoyable. All it needs is music, and maybe Z-sorting. I noticed kiwis ended up on my head :P

Love this! Very nice movement system, though the graphics seemed a tad artifacty at times. Cool mechanics though.

Very fun. :) Your entries are always of exceptional quality with lots of substance.

Cool map generation!

Nice! The graphics are superb. The gameplay is simple but pretty fun; reminds me of Toe Jam 'n Earl. I think the biggest flaw is that some of the randomly generated levels can be impossible. The very first one I got I was stuck right away, and I was wondering like, is this a difficult puzzle game or what? But when I realized it was random I realized that the extra care to generate only solvable levels was lacking. Hard to blame you for 48 hours. :) Cute concept, story, sound, funny, plays smooth. Very good.

Nice graphics and gameplay. Some piratey themed music would have been great.

GREAT LEVEL GENERATION! That makes for NICE theme interpretation. INFINITE ISLANDS!

Oh, and it helps that the game is pretty fun, too.

Pyrrhuloxia says ...

I think my level 2 was generated in a way that made it impossible to reach the boat :(.

Selkie says ...

Good, but some problems with the sprites and the movement

Fun. Good use of theme I think. Your island generation algorithm seems to be pretty good. I didn't even realize at first that they were random. Then on my second run I actually ran into unbeatable levels though. You give a little, you take a little.
Could use some music. The bridge tile should probably fill the space. Now it kinda looks like you might fall through gaps between tiles.

Very polished entry, as usual. Does get a bit boring after while as there's not too much diversity.
Still a solid game.

The hopping pirate bit was pretty funny, and it's a decent game mechanic. The x2 multiplier didn't last long enough to be very useful. Was fun until I got to a level where a tree blocked the only way to the ship :( Otherwise, fun game.

Amazing.

Well,...didn't expect anything but that you again rock the LD! Good JOB!

I liked the gameplay, had a very retro arcade feel and the graphics were nicely drawn. I presume your maps were procedural though because they really let the game down. It mostly felt too easy and bit directionless. I think a handful of designed maps of increasing difficulty would have been much better.

Fun times, well done. Ended getting a bit boring a couple islands in but overall this is very polished.

I love the idea of a pirate with a peg body, reminds me of the old PBF comic where there's a pirate surgeon giving someone a peg aorta, and you see someone with a peg head in the background.

Anyway, fun little game, nice graphics, felt like it could use a little bit more variety (not in level layout, which was very well done, I assume procedurally, but in the kinds of things you find in the levels).

Great fun. Love the pirate.
