The Caverns of WIll-o'

by Lerc - Competition Entry

Well It's something. Absolute minimal gameplay though. I won't be getting any Pellies this time. I really wanted to get a Raptor in there but ran out of time.

The code was all written on an Olpc XO-1. It uses a RGB 565 video overlay. the exe should run on other Linux systems that support that overlay style. (my ubuntu box doesn't)

I will port to a more conventional SDL display during the week if all goes well.

I see lots of potential in this game. Very cool soft shadowing effect. It's not clear what the blue orbs do when you collect them, if anything. It would be cool to see this one developed some more, this is a great start.

The lighting effects are excellent, ant the terrain destruction works smoothly. The orbs are fun to watch for a while, but it seems there's nothing more to do than walking around and collecting a seemingly endless number of orbs.

With some more work, this could be really cool. :)

Dynamic lighting is great, but there's not really anything else there

Nice graphics, this could become a very nice game. I collected about 50 of those blue things and found a huge open space at the bottom.

Shadows are really nice. Can't seem to figure out any goal. Is sort of fun anyway. Would have rated high in tech category if we still had it.

Thanks for the Windows build.

Ok, I get the perspective now, Ultima like.
Looks like a promising start, also very nice digging algorithm.

Nice graphics, but not a lot to do.

Interesting beginnings, not a lot of gameplay there though. I like the feel of it, but it needs some expansion.

Really nice pixel work on the main character, but the game is a bit missing.

love the shading/gfx ... more gameplay! :)

Where are the instructions? :D

In the end I figured out CTRL shoots. Nice shadows. There isn't really much gameplay here though. Could be great with a bit more work. :)
