Sally Spelunker in CAVE EXPLORER

by Christine Love - Competition Entry

first ludum dare I've ever done. apologies for the simplicity, but none for the subject matter. I decided to take a less literal interpretation of a cavern.

best played with the volume turned up, and nobody within earshot.

libraries used: pygame.
WASD to break bricks, arrow keys to move, alt-enter for fullscreen.

Ohhh, it's a metaphor for washing your hair. I get metaphors. AND allegories.

Gilvado says ...

So I totally didn't notice the part where you said, "and nobody else is around". Awkward. Hilarious, but awkward.
Overall, I like it, it's a decent puzzle game with hilarious subject matter.

Well, interesting theme interpretation.. Fun while it lasted, but should've been more of a rhythm game ;)

I'd write more, but for some reason everything sounds like innuendo now.

mjau: lol.

Also, I have to give you points in Community because you helped me test. Huzzah!

I see what you did there.

That was naughty! :). I liked it, but could you some variation. Perhaps different types of massage for certain blocks, etc.

5 stars for Audio.

jazmeister says ...

Man, that didn't take long at all.

DrPetter says ...

Heh. I wonder how many would have got the message if you had used less obvious sound effects? In fact, I wonder how many LD games were actually based on unwholesome metaphors draped in enough misleading cosmetics to make them unrecognizable as such :)

nilsf says ...

Amusing :)

nice. If ever there was a candidate for an ipod touch game, this is it. This was a funny and subversive idea, and not only that, the game itself is pretty fun, too. Nice job, very original.

Funny thing, the level was just starting and it said i win. i swear that's never happened before.

Endurion says ...

Hilarious :)

And actually a nice game as well. A bit more variety for successful massaging of tiles would be a nice 'touch'.

fydo says ...

Haha, this is too funny. :D

Ooooooookaaaaayyy..... :)

you should have called it mr. jiller.

The gameplay didn't quite click with me, but I hope there's still hope for me.

I like your creative and humorous take on the theme as well as the interesting control scheme you used (WASD + Cursors). I find the meta-implications stunning that a miniature sally is exploring her own cavern whilst completely inside her own cavern... I applaud the use of this sexual recursion. ;)

It seems so familiar...

Okay, so I played with the sound off at first and still figured it out. The sounds do add a lot though, as usual.

This is cool. It's funny, it's finished and there's a payoff at the end.

The first time I didn't really know what I was doing - I just pressed WASD buttons as quickly as I could - but I got through just in time. It felt good.

Interesting gameplay idea, the controls felt a bit awkward, but I'd probably get used to them on multiple play throughs.
