One night you can't sleep and decide to take some sleeping pills... What happens next was unexpected!
This is my first Ludum Dare game, hope you like it!
Info:
- Adventure game
- Game Boy style
- Absurd storyline
- No audio (sadly, I ran out of time)
Controls:
- Arrow keys: walk around
- Space: Interact
- Escape: Hold to quit
Post Jam version:
- Fixed confusing text
- Made most object interactable
- Some other small changes
NOTE: If you decide to make a let's play of my game I recommend playing the post-jam version.
There's a good chance you'll get stuck in the original.

The story was great, and I really like the Gameboy-style graphics.
Decent game, kinda annoyed me however that there wasn't any hinting towards anything. Usually wandering until you find the objective isn't all that excepted; at least for me.
This is cute and fun. I really like your graphics style. I hope this cat gets to go on a much bigger adventure in the future!
This was a well made entry. I quite enjoyed the GameBoy-esque style, and I found the story cute. If I had one gripe, it would be lack of direction for the player, which lead to me getting lost after turning on the lights. Overall though, it's a well made entry, keeping in mind the time limit.
Solid work. Tough a little bit more direction would have been nice, too much trying to activate everything to see what might happen.
Those gameboy style graphics are absolutely gorgeous, that's a great piece of consistent 4-gray tone pixel art! Love games with a story and setting, this entry is quite unique for a LD Jam and we found it quite enjoyable. Too bad about the music, but there's never enough time. Congrats and remember, sleeping pills are evil :P
Got stuck on the cheese part. Needs more directions. Although you've captured the GB feel perfectly.
Very cute! Lovely style that made me all nostalgic… :) I kinda got stuck after turning the lights on though. As others have already commented, it would be nice with some direction.
@Allthebees: Thank you very much! I'm quite happy with the graphics too especially cause I did them so quickly the last day, usually art takes me ages but having a strict deadline really helped me progress.
@dylanwolf: Thanks a lot! Glad you like the story even though it doesn't make much sense.
@Corinator: Thanks! Glad you liked the humor ;)
@Micah Goodhue: Thank you. Yeah you're right, I could've added some more guidance but I didn't think of it as I thought it was all obvious ^^' Would've helped if I had let someone else playtest it but there wasn't anyone around...
@edgeofcode: Thank you very much! :D Haha, maybe he'll make a comeback for Ludum Dare 36 ;P
@pirate_shell: Thank you! Yes, it seems most people have trouble finding there way. I'll definitely keep this in mind for future projects (and I might edit my entry if it's allowed).
@Anikki: Thanks! :) Yep, you're right ^^'
@Mossi: Thank you very much! :D
@BubsyPoochies: Thank you so much for the nice comment :D It's too bad about the audio, I had sound planned, the triggers are there but as it was too late to make the actual sounds I just disabled them... Glad you still enjoyed it :)
@meganukebmp: Sorry for that ^^' Glad you like the graphics though :) Thanks!
@pss: Thank you very much! :) I might tweak the game a bit and upload a new version in case it's allowed.
@gillenew: Thanks :D Haha yeah it's really random :P
@Retallicka: Thank you very much :D I added a little tip in the description, hope it helps ^^'
So nice game, love how this visual style match perfectly with the story. good job!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh this made me soooo nostalgic dude! I hate you! Now I'm gonna play on my gameboy all the night...
*look in the old stuff box*
...
*found!*
...
*found a Pokemon blue version!*
...
*no battery* :/

*okay Let's start looking for batteries o/*
A new story begin D:
I just put on the pokémon ost while playing it, it was awesome :)
5/5. I love it.
I was sleepy transformed into cat then became a mouse and got lied to by a key. Sadly I wasn't able to find the cheese. I only know that there is a connection to the refrigerators haha. Great!
Haha, this is awesomely done, congratulations! I would definitely like to play a version with sound!
Liked the game, and graphics. HUmor was good too, only I got stuck and didn't know what to do further as there were no hints, and had to quit. Anyway, good work. :)
Nice retro look, funny story. Maybe a little too reliant on trying everything to progress, but very enjoyable!
Really really funny, and the graphics were great. It was a little hard to figure out what to do sometimes, but I'm glad I stuck with it til the end. Great job
Wow how did you manage to do all this content? The game captures the game boy style very well. Great job!
I'm loving the gameboy theme. I did the exact same thing myself my "Not a Pokemon Clone"(TM) type game.
Pretty cool concept.
@josemorval: Thank you very much :D Glad you think so!
@Inateno: Haha don't hate me :P Have fun playing! I wish I still had a properly functioning Game Boy...
@EdoMiyamoto: Haha, great idea and thanks :D
@Pusty: Thanks a lot! I'm going to make a post LD version with that refrigerator hint changed. It should say something like "... a refrigerator and a hidden switch." ;)
@blinry: Thank you very much! I'll be making a post LD version but don't know if I'll be adding sound. I'll see what I can do.
@rahulparihar: Thank you :) Sorry it wasn't very clear ^^' I hope it will be better in the post LD version.
@APantaloni: Thanks :) Glad you still enjoyed it!
@Pibeex: Thank you very much :D Good to hear some people were able to reach that part!
@nickavv: Thanks a lot :) Glad you were able to finish it even though it wasn't always clear what to do.
@Hyoga-3D: Good question! :P I made de whole game work in the first 2 days and "threw" together the graphics in the last day. I'm actually impressed myself it still looks decent.
@Linc: There might be some people in the room that didn't open before ;)
@gingerBill: Thanks! Yeah I saw and reviewed yours too ;)
You nailed the graphics on this but it got kinda frustrating when I couldn't find the next objective.
What a great game! <3 One of the best entries I've played so far. I even had to have another one of us come play it all over again when I was done with it. We both enjoyed it thoroughly!
The graphics were very nice, of course but I really have to slap myself not to be too biased towards the positive feeling of recognition, since the style obviously is not really your own. c; It was a nice touch to be able to look at the TV like in Pokémon, so you definitely stayed true to this style, tho.
You're getting my highest humour score so far. You gave me several good chuckles throughout the game. It was also a welcome surprise to see what happened after approaching the mouse, since obviously I didn't want to eat it. And more chuckles.
It's hard to say much about the mood. Music and audio would've helped a lot. Thanks to the graphics I still sort of heard Pokémon in my head tho.
Very solid entry. Short but polished (besides audio, of course) and engaging. The mystery-solving was good fun. I don't play enough games like that any more.
This really spoke to me. Fantastic job!
@Drkr: Thanks :D Sorry for that ^^'
@Avant-Marde: Thank you so much for the extensive feedback! :D Really happy you both enjoyed it ^_^ I'm really glad you liked the humor, I sure had a lot of fun too coming up with silly stuff. I might just make other short and silly adventure games like this in the future (if I do I'll make sure to come up with a graphics style that is more my own).
Thanks again!
Haha brilliant! Really good entry. Wish there was some sound and maybe a little more guidance. *spoilers* If you make the window already be open that would've made it more clear, I got stuck for a while until I figured that one out.
I had too fun with this. I love GB graphics, the story is very funny, I would have preferred a system based on movement tiles, but still cool
This is fun to explore! I liked the cute graphics and the storyline.
Nice game with great style, a bit more direction would've been appreciated, especially in early stages of the game.
Oh you cheeky bastard! What a great game!
Once I became the cheese, I was like ... I'm sure the game is over now.
Nice cameo as well.
@pixelpotions: Thanks a lot :D I hope it's better now in the Post Jam version.
@josemwarrior: Thank you very much :D At first I had a system where you couldn't walk diagonally and it just didn't feel right to me so I made it work like in Zelda: Link's Awakening, I personally prefer the extra freedom.
@mitya1234: Haha, thanks ;)
@PowerSpark: Thank you :) What do you mean?
@sararyCow: Thank you very much! Glad you liked it :D
@Fanatrick: Thank you :) Which version did you play? I think the Post Jam version has enough guidance, it would be silly if it would tell you exactly where to go.
I loved the old school graphics and lack of direction - very old school! It reminded me of past games where I wondered about. :) I wish this game had sound though! @bytedesigning / Ashley
Nicely done! There wasn't much direction, like others have mentioned, but I enjoyed it enough to complete it. I like the special ending too!
That was an awesome experience!!! The Gameboy style graphics brought me back!! I love it!!!
Hey! Cool entry. The Gameboy style really fit, and the nonsensical story was funny.
I too found myself lost in the jam version. However, the post-jam had some cheese (pizza?) in that mysterious room next to the elevator and that did it.
Congratulations, nice work!
That is an amazing game man, congratulations, oh this brings me back so many memories. Well done!
First of all, welcome to Ludum Dare! I hope you're having fun as much as I had fun playing your game! Great entry! Loved the graphics and the humor! Congrats on your entry!
PS: For some reason the windows build always resize the window to 640x480... was this supposed to happen?
Random Ending, It would be cool to continue from one of the people eating the pizza and then you play as that person.
I just finished it! Very fun and interesting, reminds me of Pokemon and Undertale! Well done!
Great game!
The art is excellent, and the story was funny. I loved the humor and all the nice small touches - for instance, how the game icon itself makes perfect sense once you reach the ending twist, how the cheese moves around by jumping, and even the small description when entering the "jumbled" room.
I liked the exploration element. It had the classical "if it is mentioned, then it will become important later" adventure game feel, so you always have an idea of where to go next, once you have explored the map.
One of my favourites so far and who knew pillows had such personalities :) Clever use of the theme and the art and dialogue was great. Couldn't stop playing until I'd finished so that's always a good sign.
@josefnpat: Haha, thanks :D Glad someone likes having to explore a bit on their own instead of just being told exactly what to do. I guess part of it is because people don't have that much patience with games here as they might want to check out and rate some other games instead of taking a lot of time to finish the one they're playing at that moment. I could add some audio but then again I should put my time into my other game project (+ I might make a new game based on this one).
@Gamepopper: Thanks a lot :)
@MiniBobbo: Thanks :D Glad you managed to complete it!
@fin_nolimit: Thank you very much :D
@MatMortatti: Thank you! Damn, that was a mistake the pizza isn't supposed to be there yet at that moment :X Apart from that the post-jam version should give you some more hints to complete it the correct way ;)
@bigpan: Thanks a lot :D and glad to hear ^_^
@nihilaleph: Thank you so much for the nice comment! I sure had a lot of fun making it, never completed a game that fast and it's really cool to see everyone's take on the theme. Thanks again :)
The small window was indeed a mistake, I rebuild the project to dispaly at the native 160x144 resolution to record a gif and packaged that version by accident when repackaging to add the post-jam version.
@Spud: Yeah it was :P It had to stop somewhere, I barely made the deadline now so I'm glad I didn't make it any longer.
@euske: Thanks a lot :)
@Yword: Thank you :D It's obviously inspired by Pokemon. I haven't played Undertale yet so can't tell how similar it is to that.
@Somnium: Thank you very much :D While building and packaging my game I wanted to get everything nice and professional so I didn't want the EXE to still have the Unity logo so I thought it would be fun to use the pillow ;) I'm glad you liked the exploring, seems like other people might not be patient enough for it ^^'
@Franklin's Ghost: Thanks a lot! Really happy to hear that!
@The Vall: Thanks!
Love the art style, very cute, and cannot fault a game with cheese.
Clues were a little too subtle, but I'm sure that is fixed in the post-jam version. Thanks for coming along to the stream.
great looking game, got stuck on the cheese part since i didn't read your notes. keep up this kind of work! nice job
very good entry! I really liked the graphics and the mood and the story.. good you added more explanaition in the post-compo version, thathelped me finish the game.
really enjoyed it
I loved the art style and the story! It would be perfect with musics and more hints.
Hi, nice game ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #35.
Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description
@jordgubben: Thanks :) I think there are enough hints in the post-jam version.
@Pickens Inc.: Hehe, thanks a lot, also for streaming the game!
@SHLFStudios: Thank you very much :D
@axoona: Thank you :) I'm glad you were able to complete the post-jam version.
@Gord10: Thanks! Yeah some audio would be nice! Even more hints? I feel like if I'd add even more there wouldn't be any challenge or exploring left...
@Riftpoint: Thank you very much :D
@Freank: Thanks! I'll take a look at it tomorrow ;)
The story was nice and it is well executed.
Loved the art design.
I am going to need a walkthrough to finish the game, I want to find where the cheese is XD !. Well done!
The graphic theme is great. I couldn't figure out what to do at some point and I checked every door and item.
Video: https://youtu.be/cfSQhiXUWqg
Great example of shapeshift!
I beat the original, but I had to use the post-compo Cheese hint to do it. You seemed to fix all the main issues. I'm only left with one very minor, nitpicky gripe- the mousehole leading to the key, did it have to be so long?
But anyways, it was a very polished game, so good job.
Very funny game :) Some audio would be nice, but it feels good anyway. I got stuck at the cheese part so I needed to play the post-jam version (much better hints). Btw, loved the Magical Key character :D
@TheMightyTeam: Thank you very much :D Did you play the post-jam version? To find the cheese you have to look for a painting near a fridge, not a fridge by itself ;)
@Aaranos: Thanks :) That means you didn't actually check EVERYTHING ;)
@General: Thanks again for making a video of it! :D
@TheCain: Yeah, the original version was a bit confusing at times, glad you managed to complete it after all :) Haha, I made that tunnel extra long on purpose just to annoy YOU! XD Seriously though, thanks a lot.
@Naca: Thank you :) Yeah, audio would've made it complete, too bad I ran out of time... The Magical Key might just return in some other game ;)
@RyanNielson: Thanks again for streaming the game! :D
First of all thanks for giving me the link on Facebook! ^^
Cute adventure game. I like your take on the theme, the humor and the art style. I actually like that I got lost early on. A lot of the old games had you wandering around on your own, to figure out how to progress. Good job!
@derr: No problem and thank you very much :D Yeah, you're totally right, I guess these days most people don't have the patience or time anymore ^^'

Mini Submission FAQ
TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.
If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.
CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.
CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
The GB style graphics are very cute and it moves around very nicely! Good job!
