You are a shape-shifting (errr... more like stretching) Swedish Fish just trying to get some pizza! The goal of the level is to collect 12 pizzas! You have to try and avoid Eye Twitching Eddy and few different spikes! Use the arrow keys to change directions. Some blocks allow you to STOP stretching while others don't. Once you pass a checkpoint, you can press that number on your keyboard to go back there at anytime.
My daughter Jasmine Finamore (10 years old) drew all the graphics while I did the coding. This was my first Ludum Dare!!!!!! What a ride it has been. Thank you so much for checking out our game!

The web version has a slight glitch/lag when you hit the checkpoints. If you're okay with that then the Web version is your choice... otherwise, download the Windows version for the best game play!!! :)
@olkeencole Thanks!! Yeah, I ran out of time and could not decide what what music to put with it. I was trying to clip the song but I could't do it in time :( Thanks again for the feedback!
Thanks PeachTreeOath! My ten year old did all the art work!! I'm a crazy proud pops over here!! :)
Fun game, well done! Love that you got your daughter involved as well, super cool!
Simple, I liked it! Nice pixel art for a 10 year old too - It's nice that you included your daughter. The sound effects felt out of place at first, but they grew on me. Nice job :)
Thanks AngerFork! Yeah we had some really good moments. She said she was really anxious when she went to school today because she was not sure I would finish it. I had to rush on the sound... should not have waited until the last minute on sound!!
Thanks norseware! I WISH I could redo the music! I had to rush on the sound because i was running out of time. I appreciate your kind words though
That sounds like a lot of fun making a game with your kid! It turned out pretty good!
Thanks Tater_hater! It was a blast! I'm exhausted now though. lol
O got a little addicted on it! But i think it should be easier to dodge some obstacles! The song is a little loud and i couldn't notice the sound FX. Overall...is a nice game! It reminds me neon cat! =O
Surprisingly difficult. A lot of charming artwork. The audio is trippy. I like it.
Dat acid trip XD
Fun moment anyway! A bit laggy on some particle effect but good job !
I love the idea and the gfx and mood, reminded me of the 'Monty Python Flying circus' game (which i loved).
Really lovely implemented, top!
Brilliant.
Some problems with the particles (almost froze the screen) and checkpoint arrival.
Thanks Larzan for your kind words. The windows version has no glitches like that and I'm reading up on HTML5 so I can fix the sound checkpoint problem. Thanks again for checking out my game. You rock
This was pretty fun... loved the crazy graphics and it's a pretty unique mechanic - hitting the blocks to stop stretching before an enemy gets you. Cool.
I couldn't figure out how to get past the teleport blocks on section 3 though. :(
Lol yeah the portals were fun to make!!! ****HINT**** THERE ARE TWO PORTALS on the bottom that take you somewhere. One good and one bad... :) thanks for playing our game and for your kind words. I'm going to check your game out right now
This is so cute and it's so awesome that you worked on this with your daughter. Her artwork was great. Fun too.
Thank you so much Persimonn and Fenwick! Yeah, working with my daughter on such a massive project was really amazing. It was funny too because she had so many bizarre ideas in the beginning (we planned it all out on paper the first 3 1/2 hours) and I kept throwing those out... and then said this one and I was hooked!! So we went with it!!!
Thanks for sharing on stream! A lot of fun! But damn those Shurikens.
hahah.. You guys are super cool!! I was nervous watching someone else play a game that my daughter and I spent three days and almost no sleep making!! lol but it was cool that you guys did that
The artwork is adorable, props to your daughter :)
I struggled to get past the moving enemies as they'd hit my tail and kill me, but it's okay because every instance of "Sugar Explosion" made me giggle.
Congrats on your first LD, and definitely keep doing this together :)
Thanks Seitnerk!!! I just checked out your dog&cat game and I was blown away!!! Fantastic job!!
You and your daughter made a good job. Nice idea to involve the family to such a project. The pixels are very cute und colorful . Nice ... hope she will participate the next ld again! It is very challenging too... I enjoyed to play this!
It's an okay entry, but it's really too buggy (at least the web build is). Phasing through walls, not teleporting, etc. Also it feels pretty unfair and tedious to reset all the pizza slices every time you die. But it's good you've enjoyed the jam!
The game mechanics are really clever and innovative, but they could have been implemented better, overall a nice game, good job!
I appreciate the feedback Arvy and Aurel. This was my fist entry and there are so many things I need to change but all in all it was an incredible experience
This game is a mad man's dream.
I have two kids myself and I wonder what crazy sprites they'd come up with...
Nice work!
Yeah that was the hardest part... letting her design the game on a white board!!! Lol its funny what kids can come up with!!! Thanks for playing!!!! I'll head out to your game check it out too
Amazing! I loved the "YUMM-M" sound effect and after some initial confusion the game mechanic itself was really solid and interesting. I'd love to see a larger game made with this mechanic!
Thanks Hempuli!!! I'm going to head over to your game and check it out. My daughter and I have talked about possibly making this into a "real" game but I guess that just depends on the interest over the next two weeks. We are currently working on a huge project (have been for months now) so this has been a fun break from that!!! :)
Yum! I love this game! It really makes me smile! Initially I wasn't sure how I was meant to get past the spinning dudes, so I died a few times, but I managed to figure it out! You and your daughter did a great job!
Thanks Klaas!!!! yeah, I really think I need to have like a quick five second tutorial at the beginning that goes away after your first turn. Thanks for your very kind words!!
Good job! It was a bit confusing at first, but I enjoyed it once I understood! :)
I liked it :) Little challenging, but not too hard. Nice graphics!
The controls are a bit confusing though... Sometimes the arrow key don't change the direction. And some initial hint about what blocks cause grow-stop would be appreciated.
Thanks for making this :)
Sound maybe repetitive, but good game overall. Mechanics are original! And graphics are good too. Congratz to the little developer :)
Thanks AnaGF!!! I'm headed over to your game right now! :)
Challenging game, it's a shame it only has one level. I love Jasmine art, she is quite talented :).
really nice graphics, Jasmine rocks! the tune is trippy, as well as levels design; the controls are smooth, but sometimes I wasn't able to shrink by hitting the floor... anyway a nice game, would like to see more levels.
Lol yeah only the texture blocks will let you shrink (by design to add the challenge) but man I almost ran out of time!! Haha I wanted more levels for sure but just ran out of time. Thank you both for playing our game and for your kind words!! I'll head out to play your game right now
that was a pretty cute, kinda psychedelic little game! also the voice clips caught me pretty off guard, but it was very unique in that way. tell your daughter i think you guys did a great job!! :)
Thanks Cakeknuckles!!!! She is sitting next to me reading your comment right now! We are headed over to your game! Thanks again for your kind words!
"Sugar Explosion" - I like that, it is definitely a unique lose phrase :P. The game mechanics were interesting. I liked the fish growing ability, it reminded me of snake a little. It was hard to get past the enemies but I managed to do it after a couple tries. I liked that your game had checkpoints.
The music is pretty good, however, it feels a little out of place compared to the rest of the game's elements. Also, at the beginning, the second group of background text is hard to read unless the player stops moving. Maybe it would be nice if you showed that text in the first area, so that the player can read it before they start moving.
Well done! Glad to see that you made this a family activity!
@dcRfj15 Thank you so much for the AWESOME feedback!! Yeah, I think I'm going to do a post-jam game where it has a 60 second tutorial showing what the blocks do and how to move. Thanks again for playing, voting, and commenting! I'm headed over to your game right now!
Amazing art and sound effects! The color switching block mechanic threw me for a second, but I eventually figured out what I was doing. Cool game!
Thanks for your kind words Uvwar!!!! I'll head over to your game right now! :)
Well done! A bit different from the norm. Music set a good mood and the great artwork tied it together.
Nice take on the theme. Love the art, your kid is pro. Try using this link to embed Itch.io to the Ludumdare site: https://itch.io/game/upload-embed/63293
Very fun little game :D Really cool you made this together with your daughter! The sound effects were also really funny ;) Good job, both of you!
This game was SO much fun! I loved every minute of it! The "Sugar rush" and "Yum" sfx were fun. The art and theme were very unique, fun, and instantly brought me joy.
The mechanics and level design were awesome and was a good challenge to keep me engaged!
The only improvement I would work on next time is the music only because it gets a little repetitive.
Overall excellent and fun game! :)
You should be proud of that daughter of yours!
Thanks Datadazer!!! I really appreciate your kind words!! I read your comment to Jasmine... I'm digging all this encouragement! I see you also made your game in Game Maker!! I headed over there now to make a comment!
SUGAR EXPLOSION! random piece of game, nice mechanics, like it (Y)
Decent game. I wasn't sure if the pizza collection was optional at first so I had to backtrack.
Very cool game! The gameplay mechanic is innovative and creative. Really enjoyed playing it!
SO COOL!!! It must be awesome getting your kid involved. Welcome to Ludum Dare! Please participate again!
Thank you so much SonnyBone!!! I'm already looking forward to August!!! I'm headed over to your game right now
At SonnyBone!!! It says you don't have a game :( let me know if you worked on a team and it is on a different name!
good work both =) I hope you continue to make funny games with your daughter =D
Congrats on your and your daughter's first Ludum Dare! My favorite aspect of the game is avoiding moving enemies while your fish keeps stretching out. The bright artwork is great! I hope both of you will continue to make game together!
@RafosGames and @TheMeorch Thank you both for your kind words!!! We are excited to continue on this game development adventure!! I'll head over to both your games!!
Pfffthaha, that was fun in a weirdly charming way! It took me a while to understand how exactly the Swedish Fish works (at first I thought it's more like snake, then it turned out not quite so, and it can cross over its trail, too), but then it was kinda fun experience. I wasn't too fond of the portals, though, especially since they had that weird mechanics when they sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. ^^'
Also, gotta love "Sugar explosion" sound effects; especially since I looked up Swedish Fish. Audio in general was fine; I didn't find the music too annoying, either. Graphics aren't really top-notch, but they have some variety and for a 10-years old they look promising.
(oh, and a technical note: the text box in tutorial seems to be above the Swedish Fish, i.e. when Fish enters its area, it becomes invisible; since you're using GameMaker, perhaps you could have set Fish's depth to lower value in the object settings?)
It might not be the most polished game out there, but it's adorable in its own way. Keep improving. ;)
@Fabraz & @Hyden Thank you for playing my game and commenting!!!
@Alphish, Thank you so much for the feedback. I had the depth changed on the tutorial but once the fish went in front of it then you could not see the words anymore... it was a tough choice!! :) Thanks again for your feedback and for playing my game!!
I enjoyed playing this game. I loved the graphics! Congrats to you and your daughter! Well done!
Thanks for the comment!
I'm really glad it makes you happy! :)
Didn't had the time to play the LD game yet, but yours is on the list now! :D
It's awesome that you and your daughter teamed up to make this! I really like the concept, it's pretty fun and reminds me of the classic "Snake". I like the graphics, and the sounds made me laugh.
Loved it! A lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Tell your daughter she did great on the art
Interesting game. Some mechanics were a little confusing at first - I initially thought I was moving on a grid and that like Snake I'd die if I touched a part I'd already covered, but eventually found out that was false. In particular I really appreciated being able to go back to any checkpoint at any time, as I ended up missing one pizza and being able to snap back to the area it was in was very convenient and helpful.
Cool game! Reminded me a lot of Silly Sausage!
Specially loved the idea and the rad audio! Congrats!
Thanks Pixelpotions!! There was so much more that I wanted to do but just ran out of time!!! I appreciate your feedback!!
The snake's evolution!! :D I like the mechanic and the music, but it's very similar to the original snake game. Good work.
Playing this game for more than 10 minutes will make your brain explode. I think I beat the game? The screen just stopped scrolling. I really like how mind bending everything is.
lol Yeah, the embed version does not fit the screen so it looks like it stopped scrolling but there is a wall there. You win when you get all 12 pizzas. Then you go to the next room!!! :) Thank you so much for playing!!!
I loved how you got your 10 year old to do the graphics and the game overall was pretty fun and interesting to play (I enjoyed the Snake-like mechanics).
Nice and funny game. at the begining I didn´t get the concept but in less than a minute I was enjoying the game. I repeat : very nice, congrats.
Very innovative, but I feel like it could have used more sound effects.
Thank you guys for the feedback!! I agree 100% on the sound effects! I have my white board on the wall with all the things I wanted to do with the game while I was coding it... right now the only boxes not checked are all the SFX boxes!!! I just ran out of time! Thanks again for playing!!!!
I feel the game mechanic itself is solid, and workable. I do admit, however, that the implementation needs a bit of work. Personally, I had a lot of situations where certain arrow keys would not function. This created a lot of scenarios where I was frustrated for the controls not working while running right into a hazard.
Also, personally, I think the graphics is rather flashy and distracting. I would like to focus more on the stage, hazards, and the Swedish fish, and less so on the background candy canes, purple vapors, and foreground lollipops. It doesn't help that the fish covers the text, either.
Nice work overall, congratulations to you and your daughter. The music was a bit repetitive, but the idea was pretty decent and could be expanded upon.
didn't manage to finish the 4th checkpoint zone. Nice ideas
\Sugar Explosion/ \Sugar Explosion/ \Sugar Explosion/
I love this SE!!!!
Really enjoyed playing the levels... and great idea getting your daughter involved!
This game was a SUGAR EXPLOSION! Kkkk Nice work Jasmine! Lovely graphics! Audio was great too xp Simple but fun! Though a bit confusing without the tutorial xp Anyway great work!
Thanks thebrainfuse!!! Also, thanks for making a cardboard game! I've never used Unity before but now that I have a Google Cardboard, I might have to give it a shot
Super cute! I loved the aesthetic. It was sweet and cute. I enjoyed the fun 'yum' and 'sugar explosion' noises. And also Swedish Fish is my favorite candy so you already got points for that. Some clever puzzles in there too. Great job!
Thanks so much for the kind words!!!! I really enjoyed watching you guys play the game on stream!!!
Nice take on the theme. The artwork is adorable. Fun snake game. I haven't seen anything like it. That's part of why I like the ludum dare is that you can experiment with different mechanics. Great job.
This works. Using textured blocks is a surprisingly tricky technique that I just was not getting the hang of. I like the use of it though and makes for deceptively difficult puzzles. It should have been easy, but thanks to years of moving right on a screen and not looking back I kept messing up.
Lol thanks for the feedback dcolgan!!! I've watched over a dozen people play my game on stream and most of them had trouble initially getting the textured block puzzle. I'm glad you got it at the end and enjoyed the game. Thanks for the feedback
Cool game!
I think you can work with less colors on screen at the same time, it really hurts the eyes! hehehe
Nice entry!
Nice game, I enjoyed it, but I've definitely played it before (Silly Sausage!). Really great art (especially for a 10 year old)! Well done.
I was exploring around the previous versions of Ludum Dare and I found this game. I like it, it's fun and challenging.

Mini Submission FAQ
TEAMS: Teams entering the Jam should pick a single representative to submit your game, or create a team specific account you can share. We currently do not support Team Voting, but sharing an account and together playing and rating games is acceptable.
CAN I ENTER BOTH EVENTS?: You should pick 1 event, whichever you think it’ll do better in. If the idea is strong, and everything plays well enough, you can go Compo. If you’re a perfectionist, and would prefer people to play a more polished game, do the Jam. Historically, more games are entered in the Compo, but with more people and more time, Jam games have the potential to be better (that doesn’t mean they are). Many solo participants do enter the Jam.
If you made 2 games, unfortunately, the website doesn’t support multiple submissions per user. To submit your 2nd game, you will have to make a 2nd account. Only do this if you made 2 games. Alternatively, if one game is better than the other, then consider just entering the better game.
CAN I KEEP WORKING UNTIL THE DEADLINE?: Yes! Immediately after the 48 or 72 hours, we do something called Submission Hour. As the name suggests, it’s an extra hour for you to package, upload, and submit your games. If there were catastrophic issues trying submitting your game, or you misunderstood how submissions work, that’s okay. It happens. We’re flexible. If you need advice, check with the folks on IRC. If you need an admin, get in touch.
CAN I KEEP WORKING ON MY GAME?: Oh definitely! You should! But for the sake of judging, keep the Compo or Jam version around. You can include a link to the Post-Compo/Post-Jam version of your game on your games page, but sure your main links are the original version.
PORTS: Ports to other platforms can be done after the deadline. That said, the sooner you finish your port, the sooner people can play your game, improving your chances of placing in the final results. For best results, provide a Web version of your game, or a Windows version with no dependencies. Also be sure to rate at least 20 games to improve your visibility (Coolness).
MY GAME CRASHES, IS UNBEATABLE, OR I MADE A TYPO: We allow you to fix crashes, win condition, or tiny bugs after the deadline. In a sense, this is like “porting” to support more players. We leave this open to interpretation, but generally speaking your game should be identical to the game you submitted. No new features, just fixing mistakes you should have caught had you been better rested.
MY GAME DOESN’T SHOW UP: If you can’t find your game, it’s usually because the URL to your downloads are missing ‘http://‘. Fix your URLs (http://mysite.com/mygame.zip) and you will show up. Alternatively, if you just posted it, wait a minute. The cache may not have refreshed yet.
NOT LOGGED IN?: If you get a message about not being logged in, even though you are, it’s because your web browser cached the non-logged in page. You can fix this by either refreshing your cache or clearing your cache. CTRL+F5 in many browsers. Chrome is a bit more work. Press F12 to enable Developer Mode, then you can right click on the refresh button and select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”. This option is unavailable if you are not in Developer Mode.
I enjoyed the art and simple mechanics. The sound gets a bit annoying after awhile tho. Quite fun!
