December 16th-19th 2011 :: Theme: Alone
A mighty obstacle obstructs your path, and you cannot possibly surpass it alone. Unfortunately, you can remain alone even when surrounded by others. With your newfound power to objectify, people may as well be stepping stones to you.
Use arrow keys for movement.
Pick up small red blocks by running into them.
Drop a held block by pressing 'down'
When things change, objectify by holding 'down' to charge ( when not holding a block). The beam will fire when fully charged.
This is my first Ludum Dare! How'd I do?

After you find the big red block, turn around and go back. Things will be different, and you can shoot a beam by holding the down arrow. Sorry about the controls.
Yes, the jumping controls are annoying, but the rest is well done. Unfortunately, I got a GameMaker error trying to "blockify" the left-most person from the left and I couldn't continue.
Gave up after I got a game maker error, when "blockifying" one of the starting characters. I think I triggered it because a few particles from the end of a beam hit one of the characters, then I hit him with a new beam while he was transforming.
Neat concept, very cute for your first LD. The controls are a pain though : /
Apart from the jump control problem, the game is a solid entry, I like the ambience of the intro, and the second part of the game is a good take on the theme. An ending sequence would have been nice, but maybe I missed it ? I was expecting that the blocks I was gaining by killing the citizens will let me reach a secret place near the entrance
Thanks for playing, everybody!
Sorry about that gamemaker error. If you're interested in finishing or just poking around, you can hit 'z' to shift everybody to red without visiting the giant red block first. For some reason, I don't get the error when I use this method.
The ultimate goal is to build a way over the giant red block, and that's where the game ends.
I think with a bit of polish this would be a really sweet little game.
One problem I've found is that you can turn someone into a block and be pushed into a wall, particularly towards the upper left of the stage.
The only problem is the jumping (for me anyway) but I say well done besides that.
I stopped when things changed and didn't realize you could hold down to do something special until I read the comments. It seems like the whole game unfolds then, which is pretty cool. But the controls were quite frustrating so I had to give up on the more complicated block puzzles.
Its great and I played for a while but the i'm one of those players who holds an horizontal movement key an then taps jump. The movement blocking killed the fun for me.

I was stuck when I found the big red block.... Also the controls weren't the best, I hate that you can't just hold the direction you want to go and jump, when you hit something you stop and have to press the direction again.
