December 16th-19th 2011 :: Theme: Alone
-- Story --
Humans have discovered one other intelligent race in the universe, but a new recently elected (psycho) President (might change the title to something like dictator) doesn't think very fondly of the aliens and wants to completely eradicate them, so humans can be alone in the universe again. This stems from the question, "Are we alone?". The answer has become yes, but the President prefers it the other way (because he's stark raving mad).
-- Instructions --

Thanks for the criticism, if I decide to expand on the game then I'll definitely take these into consideration.
The restart at beginning thing is going to have to stay, though. ;)
Great art and sound! It was a little frustrating that I couldn't shoot straight ahead and avoid bullets at the same time.
Nice job on the graphics and the music! The enemy bullets were a bit hard to see though, because they didn't really contrast the background.
Thanks for both of your feedback!
For the shooting while turning thing, yes, making it shoot forward would be easier, but would remove the added mechanic of shooting enemies from the side, which is crucial for survival at points. I'm going to look for ways to improve this for posting an upgraded version on Kongregate, though.
Yeah, I agree that the Alien bullets are hard to see at times. Maybe neon green would stand out? I don't use green much at the moment.
Love galaga, even more if it's as funny as hell! The down side: the background dust is very distracting and the difficulty curve is a bit jumpy.
Quite conventional; but very polished and solid. Really shows what Stencyl can do. :) The asteroids got kinda lost in the starry effect, but otherwise it was cool.
Thanks again;
The background dust and difficulty curve are the two things hardest hit by the time limit. I would have loved to put more work into them, but sadly couldn't.
FOR THE SAKE OF OUR CARPAL TUNNELS PLEASE MAKE Z AUTOFIRE!
Sorry, I had to get that off my chest. The game is already difficult enough (and not in a bad way), but having to press Z for every single shot just makes my hand exhausted after my second try.
Otherwise nice polish all around, specially the graphics! You might want to render the text outside the play area though.
You can press X too! My hand was starting to hurt so I made that available so you could distribute your firing over 2 keys.
I feel the game is a lot more frantic with individual firing, like in the old arcade games (i love them). With autofire it's a lot less immersing, I've tried it.
There's not much that isn't the play area, so I don't know how I would manage that.
Not really picking up the theme here... and this is pretty much just a standard shmup... but BYGOLLY 48 HOURS AND YOU HAVE RAD ART AND AUDIO! Good work. I suck at shmups, though.
For the theme you need to read the story, but I wasn't too fond of the theme so the tie in is pretty loose. Thanks.

I enjoyed the game quite a bit. The graphics are great and the sound enhances the mood.
I'd like the game as a whole a little better if there were autofire and you saw points appear where you destroyed a ship. I was focused on the enemies, so I never looked at the score until I was between levels.
It would also fit my skill better if I restarted at the beginning of the wave where I died. :)
