Stinky Pete - cakemonitor - 48 Hour Compo Entry

Stinky Pete is a game coded in Blitz3D (plus a little php) for the competition Ludum Dare 22.
The other software I used is as follows:
sfxr - sound effects
Paint.NET - creating graphics and level files
TuxGuitar - composing music
ETNA - DLL which allows the game to connect the online high-score database

It was created by Martin Cooke on behalf of Drytree Studios.
I worked solo, created all the code and assets within 48 hours and have included the source.

Enjoy :)

* 'improved controls' version - several people reported problems controlling Stinky Pete so I added acceleration and deceleration to his movements. This is the _only_ change that I have made. It took fewer than 10 minutes to implement and as I had the original version submitted with nearly 2 hours to spare I don't consider it too significant a change... but it is a change that happened after the deadline so I offer it only as a secondary download link - the original version remains intact. Please judge whichever version you wish :)

P.S. Merry Christmas everyone!

Well done! Fun little game.

Some comments/suggestions: Wish the controls were a bit more forgiving it feels very sticky. Also, having to click through the tutorials every time you have to restart the level gets tiring very quickly :)

This is an excellent game with clever level design, funny mechanics and a pretty neat bgm. The only things I would criticize are the bad controls and how you approached the theme. Still, high rating for me!

I like the 3D render of 2D platformer, nicely done. The gameplay is interesting, but the game is not that fun to play, I gave up as soon as first problems appears. Maybe beacause of the control

fairly fun, but incredibly, incredibly frustrating xD eventually I gave up on the level where you have to fall with the critter and push it while in the air, because I did it and then forgot to make turn the stink off again so I pushed him in the lava >:( ragequitastic

I played with the improved controls. The movement does feel good, but I had a lot of trouble with collision (making it through small vertical gaps, and over corners mostly).

The levels and challenges were well designed and interesting! I actually thought the theme was decently strong, since Pete couldn't get near anybody without almost killing them. I feel for the guy since he spends so much time saving people that dislike him. He's like a stinky Batman!

I gave up on level seven or so, after finally getting through a gauntlet of tough puzzles only to fall in lava that was below the screen.

Verry fun game with a good gameplay, but a little bit difficult at the end.

Reminds me of Avalanche or Doodle Jump, but more sad. :)

Oops...the last comment was about another game. this one is fantastic! Way better with the improved controls by the way, too bad it was after the compo.
The only problem is that it is not very easy to play on a laptop with WASD+Space+mouse clicks. I would have prefer two keyboard buttons instead of the mouse.
