Wild Wild Taxi – Drive Like A Crazy Cabbie on Kizid!

Posted by
Tuesday, December 18th, 2012 12:12 am

You are a crazy taxicab driver racing against the clock! You drive a traditional yellow taxicab. There are three lanes of traffic with other cars blocking your way and you must meet your deadline. Drive as fast as you can and swerve to avoid hitting the other cars… or even jump right over them!

For this game you will use your space bar and your arrow keys. The mouse is not used during the actual game play. Press the up arrow key to go faster. Press the down arrow key to slow down. Press the left and right arrow keys to change lanes. Use your space bar to jump.

Your objective is to cover the required distance, shown in meters near the upper left corner of the game screen, before the clock reaches zero. If you are successful in covering the required distance before the clock expires you immediately go on to the next level and repeat the same process. There are no breaks between levels. This is just one big continuous thrill ride. You just have to keep going! Each level gets more difficult because the traffic from the other cars increases as you progress through the levels. If, on any level, should you fail to cover the required distance and allow the clock to get all the way down to zero… it is game over!

There are three game options available. Each game option has its own separate control. The game sounds may be adjusted. The music volume may be adjusted. There is also an option to play the game in full screen. The full screen option may be turned on or off at any time.

Game Strategy: You must race as fast as you can in order to beat the clock. So, you will need to keep the up arrow pressed down for almost the entire game while using your left and right arrow keys and your space bar at the same time to avoid the other cars. You do not have to jump over every single car. In fact, you can usually save time if you can swerve around another car instead of jumping over it. Many times you will encounter a situation where there are three cars driving side by side, blocking all of the three lanes. Your only option here is to jump over one of these cars. However, if you do not approach these cars at a fast enough speed you will be unsuccessful with your jump and you will end up stuck behind this row of cars. The best thing you can do then is to use your down arrow key to slow up and put some distance between your cab and the other cars. Then, speed up and try again.

Hello fellow awesome game developers!

One day, when I was working to expand a game I made for the  Ludum Dare 18 Challenge (enemies as weapons), it hit me… Why not try to make the world a better place with games? So many great indies have made games to make people think or make people feel strong emotions, and there have been education games forever… Why not make a game to help conquer bullying?
The Adventures of Rubberkid is a colorful, cute game for elementary school children. The aim of the game is to show the player the consequences of bullying. Each level focuses on helping a particular child (or children). Once helped, the player gets to see more info about them… The most important being “What Would Have Been” if the bullies continued and “But Since You Helped”, what they’ll do with their life. This clearly demonstrates the terrifying results of bullying!
Since the point of the game is to help conquer bullying, it’d be silly to charge people money to play it… So the game is entirely free! Instead of charging people to play it, it’s being funded with Kickstarter. The campaign has a low funding goal ($750) but some great stretch goals too: First the game would be translated into Spanish, then French… Then a “Cyberbullying Edition” would be made (aimed at teens), a children’s book and even a comic! With all that, pretty much everyone should be reached with the message :)
I really want to make this project succeed; bullying is easily one of the worst things that exists, and it’s something that affects everyone in some form. If you hate bullying like me, PLEASE share this on Facebook, Twitter, tell a friend, anything! It means the world to me!

Hello Ludum Dare friends, I am writing a book on game jams.  As part of the research I wanted to ask you if you had any anecdotes or advice you’d like to share for achieving game jam success!  In particular, funny stuff is what I’d like to hear most. =)  One liners, haiku, yoda-like wisdom… you name it. Update: I’m loving all the haiku (5-7-5 syllable poems) please submit more!

HackBotz – Post Compo Release

My LD#18 game, HackBotz, was the first game I did using Flash.  I felt like it was a pretty good concept, and so when the October challenge came along I was motivated to polish it up a bit, add some levels, and release it into the wild.   A couple of months on and a few sponsorship offers later, I managed to get a non-exclusive with which was pretty cool.  It was a good learning experience, and I owe it all to the Ludum Dare compo.  You can play the game here.

Since LD19, a unity game competition turned up on Kongregate so since then I’ve been iterating on my game Spacebrick! It’s much improved from the ludum dare version and hopefully I’ll be able to hit the $1 october challenge target too.

Play on kongregate.

Spacebrick enemies

This would also be one reason I missed out on Mini-LD 24, but congratulations to everyone who completed a game for it!

Explosive Love

Explosive Love

I’ve been working on my Ludum Dare 18 game Robots <3 Monster which is now called Explosive Love and was released for ipod/iphone yesterday! You can see a trailer here: and view the appstore page here:

However, some people have reported crashed and I’d really want to know which devices/firmwares that have a problem so that I can release a fix. If you want to help, but can’t afford 0.99$ I do have some promocodes.

The Itunes description:

As an attractive monster, you suddenly find yourself surrounded by robots, all madly in love with you. Sadly the feeling is not mutual. Avoid the clingy robots by predicting their movements and luring them into fatal collisions. Collect points and survive as the difficulty ramps up, all to beat the highscore!

An addictive action arcade game filled with love and explosions.

Very Angry Robots Android Edition – Update 6

The game is edging closer to completion. I’d now say that the game itself is done, bar any tuning of the difficulty and the controls. There are still things to do, such as giving it a visible score and giving it a persistent score, but other than that it works reasonably well.

If you want to give it a whirl then you can download it by scanning the QR code from your Android phone. Note that it needs Android 2.1 or better.

I’d be happy with any feedback that you want to give me, so if you would like to leave some then please do so on this site, or here.

October Challenge, complete!

October Challenge, complete!

Hey, Ludum Dare — my October Challenge entry, Distant Star, is finally out! It’s an old-school 4x space game, something like a mash-up between Master of Orion and pre-expansion Sword of the Stars, re-designed from scratch for the iPad. Give it a try!

Distant Star for iPad, on the Apple App Store.

On a slightly more sober (hic) note: if you play the game I’d really, really appreciate it if you left a review in iTunes.
