Covenant says ...

Excelent entry... I laughed my ass off with the characters, excelent idea! :)

pythong says ...

I was able to hear their voices in my head

Tenoch says ...

Heh, funny story and characters. Except the fire it looked great too. I thought it was a bit too difficult first, (only one missed civilan?) but since the game is not long, it didn't matter that much.

5parrowhawk says ...

That was cute. I like what you did with the characters, although the game itself is kind of simple.

yoyo says ...

Bit difficult but good game (if short). Toys & pets were awesome.

muku says ...

So adorable! You really had me in stitches when I first saw the plushies talking to each other. You get full score in Humor for sure.

Gameplay was also nicely done; it felt ever so slightly choppy here, but that may have been my machine. I'd say the game was probably a bit too short, and the level design too simplistic; some more varied rescuing/shooting challenges would have made it even better, I think.

Graphically also good; one glitch that stood out to me was how you disappear "below" the buildings when you fly into them. Apart from that, little to criticize.

ondrew says ...

The space is on fire! Awesome game. I played this on my gamepad and had too much fun.

SethR says ...

Wow, great entry with some really funny moments.

1. You REALLY should finish this up with SNES-like music and sounds, that would add so much

2. Now I'm really curious as to what the "unintentionally offensive wording" was!!

erik says ...

It's a trap! Awesome.

Really nice job with the puppets and the starfox references.

As others say, all you were really missing was some sound and more levels.

I'm impressed.

Endurion says ...

Neat. Plays nice. I had some weird jittering effects, didn't really interfere with playing though.

callidus says ...

hehe that was funny though simple, I agree with mrfun that some SNES style audio would have made a big difference

jsb says ...

This is a rock solid base to build on. Gameplay feels fine, difficulty is just right (though I used the glitch so I didn't have to collect the rescue capsules ^^), only two things missing are sound and MORE LEVELS :)

HybridMind says ...

Love the plush toys and the scripted actions.. that's a really nice bit a of polish for 2 days. The graphics are really cool to watch all the buildings go by and the fire at the bottom. Great humor in this game. I didn't do very well I'm afraid. I tried playing 3 times and got further each time but never saw the capsules everyone is talking about. It kept restarting me at very beginning and I can only do that so many times.. ;) Nice work though. I too would have loved to hear some sounds and music on this one but you had a ton of great content in there. Those puppets were awesome!

nilsf says ...

Awesome plushy dialogue. I was disappointed there wasn't a boss fight, especially since Evilosaur said his minions were disposable.

LunarCrisis says ...

Awesome =) It was funny and fun, I loved the dialog!

My first suggestion would be to add music/sound effects and more levels. You should play around with the dialog timing as well, as a couple of times I got hit by the enemy because I was reading it, which is kinda discouraging.

Here it iiis:

Windows version: http://www.raschke.de/julian/temp/ld14_final_win_jlnr.zip

Mac version: http://www.raschke.de/julian/temp/ld14_final.zip

Source code: http://www.raschke.de/julian/temp/ld14_src.zip

Not much content—sorry—I lacked direction and worked much more iteratively than before. Only really worked productively during the last hours. But I managed to do some nice little tricks using just a 2D lib :)

(Reuploaded the next day because the original wording was unintentionally offensive in one instance. Didn’t touch the rest.)

First sneak preview demo thingie…

Here it goes, Mac-only and without source so far:

This is my moment of triumph. I fear the level design will show that my concept is not THAT well thought out :)

Productivity (maybe (later))

Food photo for me and pythong (picture related).

Meetup at university, with three kinds of Fritz Cola and tasty food (except we forget plates).

Now if the wireless was a little bit more stable for me… :)

Food- and screenshots!

Last night I wasn’t too happy with my mockup:

But I even switched to C++ because it allowed me to add some features that I wanted to do for a while. Also, I ate delicious tempeh burgers:

And suddenly, my game looked a lot better! I also had some ideas for more interesting gameplay last night, so today I’ll hopefully be more productive:

I’m in!

Say hi to my desk, which I hope to see only when I do Photoshop work:

Other than that, coffee shops and the university will probably be where I am most of the time, meeting up with pythong and mathias. Wee! :)

  • Ruby (1.8, sadly)
  • the Gosu library—<plug>just released version 0.7.13!</plug>
  • TextMate
  • Photoshop + Wacom
  • cFXR
  • MacBook
  • actually
  • I’ll make this list
  • a bit longer to make it look
  • like I am well-prepared

So be very afraid! … *runs to the mall to buy some pizza*
