Not exactly sure what I should have done. Moved the two slugs to the other side of the field and got slaughtered.

X-0ut says ...

looked promising, but as soon as I tried to pass the salt piles the game exit. Shooting them did nothing.

Tenoch says ...

Mmm that was fun (having all these slug follow you and stuff), but why is it so hard? I usually die before even killing one cube. Then when i come back with the second player's guy, there is a big slaughter zone, but still a bunch of baddies who kill me in an instant... Too bad.

Had the same problem as X-out - idea is innovating

PsySal says ...

Hah, cute. I wish it had a one player mode, but I can only salute you for making it two players. Seems like a pretty fleshed out mechanic but it's just missing some balancing and gameplay tweaks. I'd *really* love humorous sound effects for this one.

Endurion says ...

Way too hard. Esp. the slow turning aim is a problem. I kept running in a big circle with all the salt cubes behind me but was not able to land a single shot.

jsb says ...

Took me some time to figure out how to jump and shoot. The controls are a bit problematic as it is not possible to turn around quickly to fire while fleeing from enemies.

It is fun to have allies fighting with you, although it would have been better if they'd separate so the battlefield wasn't so cluttered. The battles are hard to overview, still they look kind of fun.

Jach says ...

Wow, that was hard with the default settings. I upped my allies to 100 though and then the salts were destroyed...

Could use some more polish and a rework of the controls, but good idea.

agj says ...

Kind of really buggy! Funny idea, though.

ondrew says ...

The forced two player mode made the game less fun. I couldn't just go with one of the slugs the camera won't follow. The game would sometimes just crash.

Otherwise I loved the idea of slugs fighting it's archenemy - salt :).

HybridMind says ...

I think the graphics are very cute and the animations are hilarious. I don't really understand the game though. I guess this is meant for only two players? I tried playing with both controls which I had to just hunt around to find everything as I don't think they were listed anywhere. I eventually found the shoot buttons and also managed to get the fellow slugs to follow one of my players. Didn't seem like my shooting killed the salt. Am I shooting salt? I get that slugs are killed with salt but what am I killing the salt with? :)

It feels like the game is either too incomplete to be fun yet or just not meant to be played with one player. It is so easy to die and once the salt cubes get close I can only be locked in a perpetual run away state until I get stuck on a rock and die.

EDIT: Just read someone elses comment... you can jump too? Which key is that?

noonat says ...

Game crashed on me whenever I shot anything in the normal level. Doom mode worked okay, though. So funny watching all the slugs mow down the salt! :D Aiming scheme was pretty frustrating, I found myself running away for the most part.

v1234 says ...

Great theme! I loved doom mode and especially setting the number of allies and foes far to high to watch the ensuing slaughter.

As others have mentioned, the controls were a bit awkward and end conditions for each level would have been good. I didn't get any sound, was that just my machine?

Edit: My comments to ratings are attached to this post.

Here it is,

Windows binaries included

You command a squad of slugs against the sinister cubes…
‘wasd’ and ‘g’ to fire, ‘h’ to jump for player 1.
Arrow keys, ‘m’ to jump, and comma to fire for player 2.

Ravioli and PB&J.  It’s basic, but I have serious programming to do.

I’ve an idea

My wife has finally approved, so I’m going with it:

Of course, the slugs will use water guns instead of swords…  but swords are so cool!

Salve, Ludum Dare!

I just woke up, so it’s time to design!
My light breakfast:

And part of my workspace:

It’s true:  Real men like Pokemon.  😛

Already, I have my first error…  Has anyone else seen this?!

g++ -Wall -c Advancing.cpp
Advancing.cpp:28: error: unexpected Doom at end of file

I’m happy

Let’s see what happens!!

My camera is in the shop, and the webcam isn’t working right now…  Maybe I’ll get some shots up later.

I am a big fan of polished games, so I’m tossing in my work-in-progress GUI lib:

Other libs:
SDL, SDL_image, SDL_mixer, SDL_ttf

And these can be found on code.bluedinosaurs.com:

Of course, sfxr and the GIMP will be my tools.

Good luck, everyone!
