Tenoch says ...

I must über suck, but i keep dying really quickly, losing xp really fast.
Great music.

ondrew says ...

I'm really lacking the motivation to fight the enemies. They just stand there and although I know, I will need the XPs later, I'm not motivated to engage in combat.

Loved the music. The bump effect when you hit enemy gives nice feedback.

georgek says ...

I liked the audio and in general I'm a fan of roguelike games. The camera shake on the attack was cool. However I wish the tile size had been a little bigger, and in the end the play was a little repetitive.

Endurion says ...

I keep fighting and fighting, but once i'm caught i have to restart at the first level :(
Also, the blue exit is hard to see.

lucasshrew says ...

I like it, it reminds me in some point to the GNOME Bill's game.

5parrowhawk says ...

Hmm, the basic idea is sound but somehow it doesn't work so well in practice. I think part of the problem is that the game is too random. A lot of the time, the game generates a map with so many enemies blocking the exit that it is impossible to win, even though the player has gained as much XP as possible on previous levels. Then the game devolves to a dominant strategy:
1. clear all the enemies who are blocking the way to the exit
2. if you have 3 or more HP, kill additional enemies until your HP is less than 3
3. go to the exit

And the only way this can be interrupted is if the game generates an unwinnable map (which seems to happen a lot).

Apart from that it's very polished, though.

Hamumu says ...

Seems unfair that the lava is in realtime and I'm turnbased... but that's okay because it's even more unfair that my success or failure is at least 98% chance! It seems like the game needs a smarter level generator to make the levels more fair.

Five in polish for having an extras menu with concept art!

Deepflame says ...

Sound didn't work for me for some reason. I think I have some new RSI in my WASD hand now. :)

callidus says ...

ah the problems of random game play, still until you hit the unbeatable levels it was a fun dash from the lava.

DrPetter says ...

I die. I melt and I die. Oh, then I get a level where I walk two steps to finish. A little bit random, and no way to avoid fighting if there's someone in the way - he won't move. Would be neat if I could place a decoy or something to lure enemies around for when I'm too weak to fight. Got a little bit of adrenaline flowing in some cases when the magma was catching up with me.

Entar says ...

It's kind of a pain to have to restart to level 1 after dying, but otherwise cool game.

It took me more than I had planned to finish the game, but it is done!

Music, ending, extras, all complete!

(Looks much better in full size)

I don’t seem to be able to upload it to the blog. It says “File type doesn’t meet security guidelines” even though it is a .zip file. I may need help on that issue.

Well, better than nothing!

Now all I need to do is to compose some music and add extras!

Tutorial

I hate tutorials.

I hate them.

But people seem to like tutorials. I need to convince them to play.

So I made a tutorial! How wonderful!

I guess I will need to redraw the sprites. If I get time, that is. I don’t really like them.

11543 instance? WHY? WHY? I have no idea, but magma seems to create much more magma than it should.

Edit: Solved…

Whatever. This was what I was thinking of. I just don’t want to see a real wall advancing.

The game is mostly complete too.

OH MY GOD THAT’S MAGMA!

More soon.

Second Hour

Well, the game is, as a skeleton, complete. I think now it’s time to begin reiterating until I get something balanced and fun. But I doubt I will be spending much time on this one. Is it possible to participate with two games? I guess not.

I forgot to take a picture of my breakfast. Whatever.

I’ve been working on procedural generation and RPG’s for quite some time; and as such, I believe I will make a procedurally generated “Run Away!” RPG.

The rest is to come.

So, an another Ludum Dare. Ludum Dare 13 was great; and I am hoping for an another great competition. I will be using Game Maker (which I hate) again; for I think I won’t have much time to finish the game. Ah well, we will see…
