I had to sacrifice any community effort to get this in…  It’s 3AM and I’ve just finished!

    A ZX Spectrum RPG

Some time in the early 60’s my dad, who had emigrated from Dublin to Liverpool on a boat in the previous decade, met a strange fellow called Stopcock, who believed with complete conviction that dogs were going to take over the world.  Wait, Stopcock’s the name of those things in the street that do something to do with rain isn’t it?

Anyway, at the time he was a starving writer, putting on jazz and poetry nights to survive.  He realised he wasn’t going to survive much longer without a job, so took in some work on the docks as his dad had done back in Dublin.

So, he wrote himself and Stopcock into this novel, which was never published, which I still have the manuscript of somewhere.  I don’t have it to hand unfortunately, or of I do it would take most of LD to find it.)  Anyway, I want to make it in game form, as I remember it from reading it a decade ago at least…  I won’t reveal the plot yet, but I think it fits quite well…

Sadly I don’t have my dad about anymore to fill in factual details, so my Liverpool docks of the 60’s may end up rather inaccurate.

Either way, I’ve decided to present the game as an RPG, and I’ll be using RPGMaker 2003 for the first time.  I want to make it for a fake ZX Spectrum too, as it also makes the art simpler to produce.  Here’s what I have:

Byrne & Stopcock chat to a couple of old ladies [mockup]

I’m really torn on what colours to use…  3 & 4 are the ‘purest’ in a way (but neither is really possible on a Spectrum!)
