Chain Reaction Explosions

It’s not working perfectly for now, but that’s the idea, You only get One Shot ! and you have to use it to trigger chain reactions and destroy all the ennemis in one shot ! But right now I think the explosions are growing more and more in chain, maybe too much !

test

You can use one of the three ammo, choose the one that fits the best the situation and aim well !

Good luck to everyone !

Guh i’m stuck 3: (Game maker )

problem

I’m kinda stuck here :
I want  the bullet direction to be the same that the one that shoots it.

The problem is that is I make this variable global or if I call it “badGuy.direction” it will pick the direction on one of the bad guys and apply it to all the other ones. The result is that they’re all shooting on the same direction based on on of them’s.

I really don’t know what to do there, do you have any idea ?

Rubberkid (from LD#18) was reported on Joystiq!!!

You can read the Joystiq article here: Rubberkid on Joystiq [opens in new window]

I realize that this comes just barely over 24 hours from Ludum Dare 25, but finding out about this when I woke up this morning totally made my day!

I’d started a Kickstarter campaign to promote The Adventures of Rubberkid, a game that was begun back in Ludum Dare 18 (Enemies as Weapons) that teaches kids the evils of bullying, on November 30th, and just this week had started pushing to news sites and such. The campaign crossed 20% yesterday, and then this morning I found a message from a friend on Facebook that said:

“Saw you on Joystiq. Good stuff!”

All I could think was… “WHAT?!” So I Googled “Joystiq Rubberkid” and found it!

My point with all of this is… Don’t ever give up! Ludum Dare is a magical contest that can have absolutely fantastic results! Even if your game isn’t finished in time, or you end up #1406/1406, Ludum Dare can really inspire some great ideas! Don’t feel awful if the concept doesn’t come to fruition in the weekend. Enjoy the time and follow your calling in game development!

Hello fellow awesome game developers!

One day, when I was working to expand a game I made for the  Ludum Dare 18 Challenge (enemies as weapons), it hit me… Why not try to make the world a better place with games? So many great indies have made games to make people think or make people feel strong emotions, and there have been education games forever… Why not make a game to help conquer bullying?
The Adventures of Rubberkid is a colorful, cute game for elementary school children. The aim of the game is to show the player the consequences of bullying. Each level focuses on helping a particular child (or children). Once helped, the player gets to see more info about them… The most important being “What Would Have Been” if the bullies continued and “But Since You Helped”, what they’ll do with their life. This clearly demonstrates the terrifying results of bullying!
Since the point of the game is to help conquer bullying, it’d be silly to charge people money to play it… So the game is entirely free! Instead of charging people to play it, it’s being funded with Kickstarter. The campaign has a low funding goal ($750) but some great stretch goals too: First the game would be translated into Spanish, then French… Then a “Cyberbullying Edition” would be made (aimed at teens), a children’s book and even a comic! With all that, pretty much everyone should be reached with the message :)
I really want to make this project succeed; bullying is easily one of the worst things that exists, and it’s something that affects everyone in some form. If you hate bullying like me, PLEASE share this on Facebook, Twitter, tell a friend, anything! It means the world to me!

Hello, world!

So, I’m new here.  My name is Alex, and I’ve been trying to make games for quite some time with no real luck or success.  I currently don’t have any particular game projects I’m working on, unless interactive art and music count as games.

I use MMF Pro and Game Maker primarily.  I don’t really know any code, so the visual creation option really suits me.  I do have Unity, but I’ve not really tried to make anything with it.

I’m posting here because I wanted to share something.  I’m offering my music for use in amateur games.  I wont be requiring any payment or anything really, I just want to build my portfolio.  So, if you have a cool project you’re working on and you need help creating sound effects or a score, hit me up.  I’d be happy and more than willing to help you on your project.

You can see a short demo of some of my pieces at my website.  www.crashbangzebra.com.   My email address is available there so you can contact me.

I look forward to working with you.  Thanks.

Some Post-compo Stuffs!

Man, it’s been a while. Been caught up with school, so i couldn’t attend the last few LDs :(
That said, I have had the time to work on my skills a little, and have been working on a game in AS3, with the help of good (not so) ‘ol FlashPunk.
If any of you remember LD#18, i entered a game called “AfterDark” (you can find it HERE). Well, the entire game has been re-written in ActionScript since then, and this is the result:

GET A BETTER BROWSER DAMMIT!

Slight graphics upgrade since last time...

GET A BETTER BROWSER DAMMIT!

Also got a new name, and a new logo!

The game is still in sponsorship stage, but if you want, you can give it a go on FGL (you will require a developer/sponsor account) HERE

As of now, my schedule is looking pretty good. So, unless the theme is awful or pointless, I’ll probably be participating. I might work up a multiplayer web-based game using PHP and MySQL, much like the ones on my website. I could throw some JavaScript at it and make it all AJAX-y. Alternaly, I could develop something in Flash, an actual real-time game. I could do something in Inform 6, which I know, or Inform 7, which I’m learning. I could even write something in ChoiceScript…or if I really wanted to go all-out, DirectX. I guess we’ll see!

HackBotz – Post Compo Release

My LD#18 game, HackBotz, was the first game I did using Flash.  I felt like it was a pretty good concept, and so when the October challenge came along I was motivated to polish it up a bit, add some levels, and release it into the wild.   A couple of months on Flashgamelicense.com and a few sponsorship offers later, I managed to get a non-exclusive with addictinggames.com which was pretty cool.  It was a good learning experience, and I owe it all to the Ludum Dare compo.  You can play the game here.

All those months ago I created a litlle game called Alien Super Mega Blaster as part of LD18 – Enemies as Weapons.

Early today it passed the final peer review and is now available for purchase on the Xbox Live Indie Games channel here:

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Alien-Super-Mega-Blaster/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802585507aa

All the proceeds I receive from the game will be donated to Action Duchenne, a charity established to find a cure or more effective medicines to treat Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

In the months between the compo and yesterday I’ve added sound and music, new alien types and over 100 hand crafted levels of blasting fun.

If there anything the Ludum Dare community can do to increase awareness of the game and help find a cure it will be very much appreciated.

Some details on the game:

“Alien Super Mega Blaster is a classic space invaders game with a twist available for the Xbox 360.

Kill the aliens and avoid the fallout.  Maximize your score with mega cascading death to the alien scrum.

Over 100 hand crafted levels of blasting fun… how far can you go?

All proceeds from this game will be donated to Action Duchenne.”

You can find out more about the game here: http://asmb.codheadz.com
You can purchase the game here: http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Alien-Super-Mega-Blaster/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802585507aa
You can find out more about Action Duchenne here: http://www.actionduchenne.org

Thanks for any support you can give.

LD#18 game now available for iDevices: Explosive Love

Explosive Love

Explosive Love

I’ve been working on my Ludum Dare 18 game Robots <3 Monster which is now called Explosive Love and was released for ipod/iphone yesterday! You can see a trailer here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y464HJvnk5s&feature=player_embedded and view the appstore page here: http://itunes.apple.com/dk/app/explosive-love/id405025826?mt=8#

However, some people have reported crashed and I’d really want to know which devices/firmwares that have a problem so that I can release a fix. If you want to help, but can’t afford 0.99$ I do have some promocodes.

The Itunes description:

As an attractive monster, you suddenly find yourself surrounded by robots, all madly in love with you. Sadly the feeling is not mutual. Avoid the clingy robots by predicting their movements and luring them into fatal collisions. Collect points and survive as the difficulty ramps up, all to beat the highscore!

An addictive action arcade game filled with love and explosions.
