Fulmen Studio is in for the third time ! We will still be using python and pyglet (hopefully this time we’ll make a windows version of our game) and jamming from Lille.

Our team did not change and is composed of:

  • pymiro, graphist and art designer
  • baddakka, level and game designer
  • fargen, developper and taking care of the communication of the game (not sure it is useful)
  • rokary, our composer but we are not sure he will be here
  • myself, zn01wr, lead developper

Good luck!

They only get one

After a few hours working on our game, we got a psychopath killing punks in a library. Why ? We don’t know yet.

Reload Postmortem

It’s been more than one week since the end of the last LD and we haven’t made a postmortem or a post about our game yet. Here it is!

This was our first Ludum Dare (and finished game) but we are really proud of what we made in 72 hours. It was a great experience, very fun, and we are thinking about making a new version of the game with more content.

Our game

One of Reload levels

Reload is about a crazy scientist who creates a robot to conquer the world. However, this robot is only a few centimeters tall and has 10 seconds of battery. Through a puzzle/platform level design where speed is as important as reflexion, the player must reach a teleporter without dying.

We implemented several elements the last day, such as turrets and fans. Our artist did a really good job by animating all the possible states of the robot. About three hours before the end, we decided to add an intro and a boss. We did not have time to make a boss, but we have an introduction scene featuring a crazy scientist!

What went right:

  • We had loads of ideas about the theme. We were 3 but we decided on the theme in the first few minutes, and we were immediately ready to work.
  • Our team (a developer + an artist + a game designer and audio creator) worked very well.
  • The first hours were very productive. In less than 8 hours, we already had a playable game.
  • There wasn’t any big bug that took me hours to fix. They were a some bugs, but they got fixed really easily.
  • My sister cooked waffles for us. You need energy to create a video game.
  • We had a lot of fun :)

What went wrong:

  • I did not have a computer with windows so I had to ask for help to make a windows version of the game. Happily, the LD community is the best and someone created a windows executable within an hour.
  • I thing that we didn’t work very much the second day, but we really needed to rest.
  • Our second developer would have been useful, but he could not be here in time :(

Can’t wait for the next LD!

Any pyglet developper ?

Our entry for the jam is done but only 2 people seem to have played it… probably because there is no windows executable. Python and pyglet are really awesome tools and are cross-platforms, but most players don’t want to download additional libs just to play a game.

Unfortunately, I’m only using Linux… So I am asking the awesome LD community: is there someone who could turn our game into an executable ? That would be really great.

Edit: thanks to shinD, windows users can now play the game!

Reload – End of day 2

Day 2 has not been very productive… I implemented bashing and acid lakes, but there are still some bugs to fix.

We only have 7 levels right now

Anyway, here is a demo! The game requires pyglet and python, but they can easily be installed (I’ll make a windows and mac version later). We also found a name for our game: Reload.

Hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Fulmen's game

We’ve been working on our game for about eight hours, and it is time for a screen shot ! Our robot only has ten seconds of energy and must reach the end of the level using the batteries. We plan to add loads of items and interactive elements, such as lasers, doors, etc. You can already see a deadly acid lake, which doesn’t totally work yet.

Ready for LD #27

Fulmen Studio (our team) is ready for LD #27! These delicious pizzas should bring us enough energy to make an awesome game (or so we hope).

Hello everyone!

This is the first Ludum Dare for Fulmen Studio, our team composed of four members (maybe 3 for the LD). We are all aged 16 and from the north of France. We’ve been creating video game for a few years, although we never managed to finish one.

  • Pymiro is our artist, and will be using gimp to create amazing art
  • Baddakka is our level and game designer and will be using tiled. He is also our tester and music creator
  • Fargen should be one of our developers but he is not back from vacation yet and we can’t manage to contact him… I hope he will be there
  • zn01wr, me, is the second developer

We will be using python+pyglet, and a small library that I started to create a few days ago. It has a basic tiled map loader and some classes to handle animations using JSON, and is available here.

We wish good luck for everybody and hope that we will be able to finish our game :)
