I’m in! My second LD 8D

Yay I’m no longer a Ludum Dare noob! 😀

I’m in…


  • Dev: Flex/FlashDevelop, may use Flash if game needs a level editor (too lazy to write one *yawn*)
  • I’m going to reuse my as3 library `cmg` and here’s the latest version with a little bit of Molehill starting to show up! 😀
  • Visuals: my trustworthy super-fast programmer-art-spitting Fireworks, aided by an 8″x6″ tablet
  • Audio: my LD21 entry was very lacking in the audio department, this time I got sfxr, OpenMPT, and a truck load of free VSTs to do something with.. as well as a little bit of noobish practice doing simple tracker loops. And of course Audacity for final touches.


  • Last time I couldn’t make it in time for the comp, so I got into the jam. this time I’m going to try finishing before the 48 hours.
  • Last time I tried to overdo it from a design perspective. This time I’m keeping it stylish minimalistic limiting both visuals and design.
  • Other than that, I’m just gonna have fun and learn whatever earned lessons LD throws at me this time, I fell in love with those :)

Prison: Escapor

9 hours to go… I doubt I can finish my entry in time, I’m not giving up though, planning to enjoy it till last second :)

Because this is the first game creation contest I ever participate in, and I think it’s the greatest competition in the history of gamedev contests so far.. I mean we took down the competition site!! it was like friendly-fire DoS attack.. I’ve learned many good lessons, I’m definitely going to write a detailed post-mortem on what went right and what went wrong, at least for my future self who I know is folish enough to participate in many more competitions.

When I first started working on my entry, I had 4 game concepts within an hour, all of them are great ideas on paper, in the end I chose this one which I called Prison Escapor:

It may look kinda chaotic, but the idea is clear in my head… I think 😀

Here’s how it looks now:




The biggest problem I have is the AI, it took me most of today’s work so far to make that guard chase the player around through the tunnels until he losses him or finds another prisoner to beat down, that’s one way to get rid of guards 😉

So you see, finishing this today is unrealistic, but I’ll try my best to get it as close as possible to playable state.

Hello everyone, I’m going to use Flash for LD#21 (which is my first LD).

I have an actionscript 3 utilities framework that I’ve been developing for my personal projects, most likely I’m gonna use it for my LD entry too. So I made this post to declare and share it.

I call it CMG, that’s the shortened name of my start-up indie company `Cloud Mill Games`. It provides several game-specific utilities based on a number of excellent open source libraries:

These libraries are all included within CMG and all -except Tweener- are modified to integrate with it, CMG is actually a little more than just glue code.

Keep the following issues in mind:

  • CMG is written to be used with Adobe Flash, so I have no idea if it is useful with Flex based libraries.
  • It is still far from being complete, and I’m sure there are a ton of bugs still there. So don’t go around building nuclear reactor software with it, use at your own risk.
