I'm an independent game developer working with the Unity3D game engine. I've been working on simple 2D games for the last year or so. I also frequently work with a few other local indie game developers who collectively work as QuadraTron Games (www.quadratron.com). In addition to game development I also founded an net label called Zenapolæ, which releases ambient, dark ambient, glitch, noise, and other experimental electronic musics at www.zenapolae.com.

Evolver is a game where the point is to explore the randomly generated world.  Exploring the world will allow you to pick up ability points which can then be used to evolve or upgrade your character and make him better at exploring the world.

You may notice the instructions panel is blank, one of more than a few things that didn’t make it off of the list and into the game.
Instructions :
Camera : Mouse (lmb/rmb change how it moves around)
Movement : WASD
Esc/Return : Bring up menus
Special Powers : double press W for dash, Q for Ecolocation
There’s a whole lot more that can be done, but figure it out on your own.

Sunday Wrap-up

In the Trees with the Abilities Menu

On sunday we started working on our player character’s abilities.

On Sunday we started working on gameplay.  Zenas worked on getting an abilities selection menu where the player can spend “evolution” points to gain a new ability.  Christian was able to get a selection of six abilities implemented, though we still have to link the ability system linked up to the menu.  Rob continued to experiment with a variety of models to include within the game world.

The menu system has been completed.

 

As Christian and Rob work on our game play and game world, Zenas put some touches on the menu system.  With less then 24 hours to go we have set our sites on designing our player character model, some abilities for the player to use to explore his world, and an ability tree menu for the player to spend his evolution points on abilities.

Some experimentation with game world objects and terrain.

Saturday was spend experimenting with the game world and the dynamic terrain generation. Christian finished up a terrain generation script while Rob created several models to populate the world. Zenas worked on getting a menu system set up for the game. The highlight for the day came when Rob stumbled upon a crazy looking world where the trees, instantiated at a huge size relative to the player were randomly rotated and thrown down upon the landscape. Needless to say, we were so impressed with how it looked that we decided to keep further experiment along this path to really awesome results.

Post Friday Wrap-up

Ludum Dare Friday (Day 1)

We spent friday night working on our games design.

We spent most of Friday night designing our game; an exploration type game where the player will need to evolve new powers to get to certain areas in the game world.  By 3am (est) we had a pretty good idea of how the game should be played and before heading to bed we assigned some tasks for Saturday.  Christian is working on dynamically generating the terrain and populating the terrain with interesting object models for the players to discover and explore.  Rob will be modeling the environment as well as a player model.  Zenas is getting a character and camera controllers imported into the game.
