Flap flap flap!
Just a post because I’m pretty proud of my animation. The gameplay is extremely lacking (ran out of time), but play it if you want!

Have one final update before bed. Got all of my hard art done. Tomorrow is easy art, music, and maybe gameplay?
Only gameplay is what you see at the moment. Hah.

Now to spend another 3 hours drawing my other main sprite.
Hey all!
Most of my progress is getting posted to my twitter, so check it out there if you want: https://twitter.com/WetDesertRock
My idea thus far:
Here is a scan of my player ball (“walking”):
This was probably the first Ludum Dare in which I was actually almost completely happy with the end product. What I amount that happiness to is the personal goals I set for myself. Instead of having my goal be about making a complete game at the end, I made it about having a game full of music and art that I was happy with. Another goal I had was to try to make another story-based game. I wanted a cohesive experience that used art, and music to help the story telling. My last goal was to not get bogged down by programming. I didn’t want something difficult, I wanted something simple that I could whip out. I knew that programming was the one aspect of LD that (at least in recent times) has bogged me down and de-motivated me to the point where I was not happy with my product. Don’t get me wrong, I love programming, but gamedev programming has been hard for me recently and I wanted to continue my break from it. I also had a bonus goal, which was this: Live record my music. Instead of using all of the software instruments to create my music, I wanted to record it myself. At least a little bit. I succeeded.
With these goals in mind, I knew there was a high likely hood that my success hinged on the theme. So I decided that if a theme was chosen that I didn’t like, I would go with my own theme (I choose the theme “Isolation” for this). A lot of people wouldn’t agree with this, however this time around I didn’t want the theme to be the challenging factor, I wanted it to be a guiding factor. Sometimes if I make a game based off of a a theme I don’t like, I’ll produce a loveless game. Luckily there were two themes for me, which worked out super well. I think that the dual theme was a great point about this LD, many games were produced that were fantastic, as well as a good variety of games.
What follows is a day by day account of my process.
This is what I have thus far. No real gameplay yet – that comes last, right?
Haven’t been posting a lot here, as its mostly been on my twitter. Follow me there for more frequent updates!
Look! Progress!
Today was largely unproductive, but I did finalize my concept of the game. Basically a puzzle as well as avoiding the enemies. With your hairdryer.
Thusfar the idea is to turn on flashlight to freeze enemies, explore and find neat things, as well as figure out story.
Art wise, trying to go for a patchwork colorfield style thing.
Here is my current art style (its my game tile map if you couldn’t tell)
Its what the title says. I will participate this LD, making it my fifth. In terms of my toolset it will most likely be what it was last time. Probably going to use LOVE, or a similar software-rendering engine that rxi has been working on that allows me to have fine grain low level access to the audio. Music will be done on Logic, with sound effects being recorded and edited using MaxMSP, Audacity, SPEAR or maybe even Kyma.
In terms of art, I am most likely going to try to play around with the particle based color-field-esc art that I’ve been playing around with.
Something like this:

Hey!
Pretty vague title, but I have no idea if I could participate in the whole compo or not. If I do, it might be a 1-day challenge for me. Or maybe even a 1/2 day challenge. Who knows. All I know is I want to do audio for a game, thats always fun. Anyways, here are my tools of choice:
Best of luck to you all, hope to see you on the other side!
Music is finished and added into the game.
Here is the current title screen for your enjoyment:
I have spent all of today getting over my aural creative block! This video is meant to show off the audio in my game. Tell me what you think about it, I’m not quite sold on the sound effects.
Also, try to see if you can start spotting which enemies are dreams and which aren’t! (Hint, some turn faster than others).
I now have two different kinds of enemies. One is “real” and the other is a “dream” enemy. They have slightly different behaviors. The dreams are smoother, slightly slower, and turn slower. Your goal is to shoot the dreams with dream bullets, and the real ones with real bullets, if you misjudge and mismatch it, you lose points.

New shiny gif, its over 2MB so I uploaded to to dropbox. Click the link and enjoy!
