And the game is finally up

Yup, I’m finally done with it. It’s been a productive weekend, yet I feel I’ve been kinda lazy today. Nonetheless, I managed to create a decent game, so I’m happy with it. Now let’s see what the rest think of it…. Do you?

I has can graphics?!

The day is almost over for me here, and I managed to squeeze in the graphics. They aren’t the prettiest, but they’re decent enough for the game. I’ll start on polishing tomorrow, where I’ll try to make it shine a bit more. Hopefully.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go eat my well earned cookies.

And the essence of the game is finished

That’s right, in one day, the essence of the game has been made. And with a proper title screen this time so you can read proper instruction! The next step will be the graphics first so it looks at least decent. After that I’ll have to throw some good polishing on it….

In the meanwhile, why don’t you test the current version and give feedback? I always can use this to improve the game. You can play the current version here.

And the base has been made

Yup, I came with a quick and simple game and made the base of the game. Long story short, you’re a bank robber who has just robbed a bank, and are trying to flee from the police by car. The game itself is a basic car chase game with a few extra elements like shooting from your car.

Oh, and before anyone says so, a bank robber is technically a villain. ;P

Yes, the graphics suck and may be confusing, that may or may not be improved tomorrow.

I hate weekend mornings

Like, really really hate them. I usually sleep till the late afternoon so I’m not all groggy and cranky. Especially if you’ve waited till 3AM for the theme…. So I’ll start the weekend with coffee and a book for inspiration. Let’s hope I’ll use my time properly…

Time to get productive (aka “I’m in”)

It’s been a while since I’ve been really productive, as in, “don’t rush something into a workable game in a few hours.” This will be a nice distraction from my current project (be an awesome guy and support our project!) too where I’ll be making something by myself.

I’ll be using the usual tools since they’re one of the easiest and quickest to work with. And I’m most familiar with them anyway.

Language :AS3 (flash), everyone should be able to play it with little hassle, right?
Library: Flixel, it’ll make AS3 a walk in the park.
IDE: Flashdevelop, it does the job perfectly fine for this.
Art: GraphicsGale for simple sprites, GIMP for additional editing.
Sounds: sfxr, 100 sound effects in a minute anyone?
Music: Aviary, maybe Otomata. Hey, I’m a developer, not a artist!

Also, the world will end with kittens.

Well, I’m out D’:

Sorry guys, but illness got the better of me… I’ve been kinda ill all this week and hoped that I would be over it this weekend, but sadly it’s not much better…. Headache, coughing, feeling very tired etc. Just your basic illness, but bad enough to prevent me for doing this.

I really wish I could do this, but there always are priorities. And this is one of them, it would do me (and the game) no good if I work hard now. Sorry guys, next time I will fully participate for sure!

Ready for round 2

Hiya! I’m back for another LD round! I participated for the first time in LD23 where I made The Tiny, Unknown and Unimportant World. It wasn’t a great game, but I sure learned a lot, and I surely will learn more this weekend.

I’ll be using the same tools as I did last time, simply because I’m most familiar with them.

Language :AS3, so I can upload it to Kongregate if it’s any good this time.
Library: Flixel, it makes AS3 look easier than it is.
IDE: Flashdevelop, since I’m too lazy to find another one.
Art: GraphicsGale for simple sprites, GIMP for additional editing.
Sounds: sfxr, sfxr and sfxr.
Music: Aviary, maybe Otomata if it suits the game

Also, kittens.

Game is up!

That’s right, I’m finally done. It’s been a productive weekend, and despite being a sucky game, it was definitely worth it. Now go play and flame the game! May the best LD23 participant win!

Ready for the submit!

That’s right, pretty much all major things are in the game. The graphics are “updated”, the weather is working, there are title and game over screens, and some other stuff. Oh, and there are kittehs now! You have to unlock everything to use them though, so get to work!

Look how happy they are with the kitty!

Right now my biggest complain are the graphics, but I’m no graphic artist or anything, so this has to do. There’s 9 hours left, perhaps I can update, add or change anything before the deadline. But for now, I haz can gamez that can be uploaded! 😀

Time flies!

Almost a day has passed, and I’ve been working 12 hours non-stop on my game. Thanks to that most work is already done, you can place structures (and eventually humans), unlock new structures, and humans will die if you’re not building enough. That all completely with collision, boundary wrapping and counters. No kittens yet though.

Tiny World screenshot #2

This is *not* enough to save the human! Keep building!

The most important things (beside kittens) to do now are the weather, title/game over screens, ****ing graphics and sound/music. Hopefully I have enough time tonight to create the weather, so I can spend most of the day on the graphics tomorrow.

3 hours in and there’s an idea

Okay, technically we’re 10 hours in, but it started when I was sleeping. ;P

After thinking a lot I’m going to use the theme quite literally; The game is set in a tiny world. In fact, it’s no bigger than 800×800 px.

Basically there’s one human on the tiny world, and you, as some kind of god thingy, have to help him by creating structures and more humans. The humans will only survive when they have a shelter and food/water. But you won’t be able to create all the needed resources that easily… First of all, there’s little room on the tiny world, so think wise about what and where you’re building everything. Secondly, not all buildings will be available from the start. And thirdly, the weather will try to kill the humans, so you better be quick!

You can’t win the game. It’s game over when all humans die. Will you help them survive? Or will you let them die horribly? The fate of this tiny, unknown and unimportant world lies in your hands.

Don't worry, the buildings will get bigger to make things harder for you

Oh, and there will be kittens, I can assure that.

Let’s do this!

Hiya! This is pretty much my first time, so needles to say I’m pretty excited. I have little experience in game developing, but plenty in programming in general to be able to make some games. 😀

Language :AS3, everyone loves flash… Right?
Library: Flixel, it makes everything so much easier.
IDE: Flashdevelop, easy and powerful enough
Art: GraphicsGale for simple sprites, GIMP for additional editing.
Sounds: sfxr, what else?
Music: Aviary or Otomata, depending on the kind of game I’ll end up making.

Sadly I have no musical skills, so I’m not sure how I’ll handle this. I’ve heard of Autotracker, but I’ve never used Python, and it seems a hassle to convert to .wav then to .mp3. I guess I can use Wolfram Tones if it’s going to be a retro/8-bit ish game, else I might throw in some royalty free music. Anyone knows if the latter is allowed? If not, I suppose the game has to be so good that it doesn’t need music. 😛

EDIT: Thanks to Rybicon for sharing Caranha’s blog, it seems I have found a way to create simple music. 😀
