Going to call it a day

Pretty happy with what I’ve got so far. Occasionally there were some struggles with my not quite battle-tested engine, but everything seems to be working now :)

Here’s a gif of some debug-exploration. Tomorrow I’ll try to add resources, buildings and a UI!

Yes!

I’m totally unprepared, but really looking forward to a proper LD again. Over the past week or two I hacked together a real simple JavaScript + HTML5 canvas engine in my spare time, and I’m looking forward to testing it out for real :)

“Art” will be made in Photoshop probably.
Don’t even ask about sound.

Have fun everybody!

We jammed for about a day now, and we’re coming along pretty nicely! We’re mostly being artsy fancy-pants at the moment, but we’ll do our best to make the game fun too :) You play as (a) bird(s) on a rooftop.

Here’s a heavily compressed gif, for your viewing ‘pleasure’.

So much compression

Read it here!

We had a ton of fun making this game and I feel the things that went well totally outweigh the things that did not. We are actually thinking about building this into something more, but then again we feel like doing that for a lot of other concepts as well :)

Give Magpie a shot!

Magpie is done!

Magpie is as finished as we could get it in this weekend!

Give it a shot here!

Can’t wait to try out your games, and good luck to those who are still finishing up!

Hello All,

As we are approaching 2 am here, I felt it was a good idea to show what Moose and I got thusfar:

We incorporated the theme in the way of only having one inventory slot, while there are a lot of interesting items that you’d want to carry around with you.

Magpie is slowly becoming a simple dungeon-crawler/explorer (enemies are planned!). The goal is to find the exit, guarded by a boss that is too strong to just battle with simple tools.
Luckily, the walls in the randomly generated dungeons are stuffed with all kinds of nifty equipment! You can however only hold (and therefore use) one item at a time. If you’d like to dig some tunnels, you’d have to drop your weapon to make space for a pickaxe. If you then so happen to stumble upon a cave filled with monsters, you’ll have to rush back for your sword!

We like the idea and we have most of the basics standing now, tomorrow will be used for adding lots of items, and some NPCs to fight against!

Together with Moose I started working on Magpie (working title?).

So far, we got the concept worked out, the basics of the dungeon generation are down and we can move around :) Nothing too fancy yet in gameplay terms, but it’s a decent foundation!

You can see it move in this oversized GIF (20 mb!)

Stuff is starting to work!

So this is how far I’ve gotten yesterday. I hadn’t really planned to take part in the ludum dare this weekend since I’m over at family, so I can’t dedicate my time to it.
Engine wise is everything is working fine now (Flashpunk saved me a whole lot of time), so now I can start building a world for my character to explore!

Progress

This is what I have so far:

It is going to be an RPGish game. You can currently walk around the whole overworld (top right corner is a “mini map”), although there’s nothing there except for the (empty) village and a load of “pigs”.
you can slay those pigs, I have a nice damage system going.

I probably won’t get close to finishing it before the end of the LD, but working on something again is a personal win.

I’ve got a town

I’ve barely coded anything yet, but I have got a small town drawn out. This will the place to buy your upgrades. it looks awful to me but with 36 hours to go I don’t think I will improve it :/

Now on to adding some actual gameplay. But first: lunch!

Let’s try this

I decided to give LD a shot this weekend now that I have some time. Time pressure turned out to be a real motivator last GGJ, and I hope to finally finish something again this weekend.

I’ve been making games in flash for a while now, and recently started using flashpunk. I’m not sure which I will use this weekend.

Really looking forward to all the games that are going to be made :)
