The true and only way to MONO: LD28 went well

So, now that I have fully recovered, let me present to you:

THE TRUE AND ONLY WAY TO MONO

 Basically you play as a careless hipster dude that needs to clean his mess before his mom comes to see him. The only thing is, he’s embracing a new philosophy called MONO he probably heard about in some magazine you’ve never heard of. This neo primitive maya way of life forces him to use only one object per day. So you’ll have to chose between the sponge, the hammer and the cardbox to wash dishes, repair leaks and broken furniture, and tidy your socks. Where there’s a will there’s a way. The MONO Way.

For the third Ludum Dare and the second on my own, I think I did pretty well. The gameplay isn’t that great, there are still some problems with the collisions, but it’s still funny and looks (almost) finished. Plus I had a great time jamming with my pals.

Second time I take part in the Ludum Dare, but this time I’m all by myself, yaaay.
Sooo, I’ll probably make something very very very simple and easy to code and concentrate more on the visual part. Game Maker, Photoshop, and for the sound ah ha ha. Haa. No idea yet.
I’m excited but since I just came back from a very tiring trip and haven’t slept much these days, I don’t know if things will go right, but I hope so. May coffee and coke help me as I tread the cruel path of the 48h jam.

Anyway, here I am.

After the pros, I’m discovering the cons of the jam, especially about voting.

I do understand the problem about several people working on the same game and voting one after the other on it, because that’s totally unfair, but why do I have to log on the account used to submit our game, even if it’s not a group account but just my friend’s account, to vote on someone else’s game?  What if my opinion about a game isn’t the same as my friend’s? What if my friend wanted to vote but finds out he can’t because I already voted for him?

Do I really have to create a new account for each team I’m working with? Isn’t that a bit annoying, or not very useful?

Isn’t it possible to just link the accounts of the other people who worked on the game in the entry, and thus forbid them to vote on the game, but allow them to vote on other games?

Because there’s also that big problem about “property”. You’re linked in the description but what if people don’t read it? And what if people just want to check your profile, and you’ve written nothing about the game you’ve been working on? They don’t know you’ve been part of this jam. And thus they don’t know how you work, what you’ve done.  Most of the time people remember games more than people (in fact they remember people when they know their games are really great, and then they follow their entries, their tweets, their profiles). It’s the first thing you check on people’s profile, the games they made, and then you think “So it’s HIM who made THAT game I liked so much”.

So yeah, I’m a bit annoyed about that. And (even though I don’t know how the website is working and maybe it’s really freaking hard) I think it would be easy to just allow people to link the accounts of the people they worked with on the entry, and thus show the game on everybody’s profile, and forbid everybody to vote on this game, but allow them to vote on the other games made by other people.

I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong or there’s something I didn’t understand, but I find it really frustrating.

Play Race against the Machine here ! 

 

So it’s kind of a anti runner where you must shoot someone running before it reaches the end of the level.

It came out so good, and the last two days were really fun, I’m glad about that :'< (though I still don’t understand why everything worked so well ._.)

This LD was a really nice experience , I’ll definitely take part in the next one! (because there’s nothing more enjoyable than lots of sleepless nights YAY)

So all we need now is sound, some level design, and some pictures for the menu, victory and game over screens, and for the  plot.

And here’s the first one /o/ Wysk made the original sketch, and I just cleaned it up because it was a bit blurry (you know, when you’ve lost your glasses it’s a bit hard to perfectly see what you’re drawing) and added some lighting and textures.

I was finishing my texture and when I saw the icon I…  I had to

Anyway, Wysk and I have finished modeling, and we’re currently working on animation and texturing /o/

Lapinou’s already coded a first prototype, and well, I think we’re all working pretty efficiently despite the fact we lost some hours on 3D modeling problems and code errors.

And most importantly, we’re all enjoying this jam.

Woah, this jam’s making me realize I still have a lot to learn about 3D D:

Though I did learn a lot today, those two hours spent trying to figure out what the heck was going on with my model weren’t so useless after all.

First Ludum Dare

Let’s do this. I’ll be working with Lapinou and Wysk for the next two days /o/

We’d like to make a 3D game in Unity, so as a game art student I’ll mostly work on 3d smax and Photoshop with Wysk, and Lapinou will code everything.

I wanted to put a lil’ doodle but I really have no inspiration for the moment D: I’ll save it for when we’ll discover the theme !
