Oh hey it’s the deadline I should stop

That was me 30 minutes ago. Anyway now the game is submitted. What a relief. Here’s the link for the game if anyone’s interested.


All in all I think I’m fairly satisfied, though the game idea was a bit too grand to fully complete in 2 days. I was able to get the main game mechanics working, but I didn’t have enough time to draw more variations in the art or add any music/sound, so the game is a bit bland right now. There also isn’t a tutorial and the game is confusing as hell. Oh well. I did add a readme but who reads those these days.

For anyone that has no idea what this game is, it’s a “befriend people cause you’re a penguin that wants to become a pharaoh” game. You basically shove fish down people’s throats hoping they’ll like you. However it’s significantly harder to befriend someone that’s already popular, so you have to climb your way up.

I actually like the game quite a bit, though currently it’s not very player friendly. I’ll probably rework it a bit and release it later with a bunch of other stuff added. Also clean up the code. Oh god the code.

UI progress (popup)

Added a new popup window that appears whenever you click on a node. Nothing exciting but I kind of need this for the game to be playable, so that’s a plus.

I guess Caesar Salads aren’t popular in this world…


A bit of progress

So after being worried about using Unity 4.6 and frantically looking around the web, it seems builds made with Unity 4.6 have no problems running on other people’s machines (including the webplayer which they said would be updated if not already).

Anyway I still made some progress in my game. Not much to see from a UI standpoint, but now I have NPC and player objects in the game being initialized properly.

Even if there isn’t much to see, here’s still a screenshot.


Graphs and penguins

So I got my node-edge graphs kind of working. The node positions are hard-coded, but the edges are being set dynamically.

Also penguins I guess, cause why not.


Slowly but surely

So after struggling with Unity 4.6 for quite a while, I think I’m finally getting the hang of it.

Here’s a screenshot of what I have so far. The circle in the middle moves when you drag your mouse on the background, and the little “x” button let’s you quit the app.

It ain’t much but I ain’t complaining. On another note the programmer art is here to stay.

First Ludum Dare

Thought I’d write a post just to try it out.

Here’s the tools I’m going to be using.

Engine: Unity (probably 4.6)
Graphics: Gimp
Audio: sfxr
Plugins: Anything already included in Unity

Haven’t really done a game jam before, so I’m just hoping to complete a moderately entertaining game by the end of it. I’d be fine with just completing a game too.
