Moonwalk bug & Playthrough

Posted by (twitter: @TomasBencko)

After countless playthroughs of my game, I just discovered another funny bug – a soldier got bored from fighting so he went moonwalk instead :)

Apart from that, I’ve created this playthrough video from the game:

Of course you can play & rate the game here.

In this game you can play as a demon capable of shifting into corpses of humans he killed. It features deep combat system, complex AI, nice pixel art, retro sound effects and diverse environment. I’ve also fixed bug that was causing crashesin HTML5, so now you can play web version without worries :)

I’ve made it!

After 56 hours of working on PC and less than 8 hours of sleep I’ve finally made it! I am really proud of this achievement because I’ve had no idea what I am capable of in a such time manner. Especially because this was my first project in Game Maker (I own it for just a few weeks) and one of my first touch with real programming generally. I hope you will enjoy playing this game at least partially as I enjoyed crafting it. I have wonderful weekend behind me.

I’m very pleased to present you my game. I didn’t manage to finish my game in 48h compo so I join the jam instead but everything was made by myself during 72h. Please give it a try :)

I’m in such a hurry this compo, I didn’t have a time to write anything here yet :)

I’m working on a side scrolling game where the player controls werewolf trying to escape from fanatic crowd wanting him dead. I won’t manage to do everything as planned, for example I had to put away a possibility to transform between werewolf and a human, which was the key feature actually, but I do believe my game will be fun to play anyway. I’m quite satisfied so far and I’ll hopefully have some time left which I’ll surely spend on polishing :)

Hello! I’ve just created walkthrough video of my game. Some people get stuck on one place so if it’s your case or if you would like just to see a short story from my game, feel free to do it :)

My game is done! Finally.

In fact during the second day I litteraly gave up and went to sleep early, but on the next morning I had better mood luckily so I decided to join the jam and finish at least first chapter of my game. This Ludum Dare I wanted to create something more story-driven but decision to create my first platformer with multiple story chapters in 48 hours was really “daring” :)

Player animations working!

It is still just a prototype but with new player animations it looks much better.

Not so sure if I’ll made it to the compo. I definitely want to finish this game so if not, I’ll join the jam instead. I already have well thought story and I’ve made very flexible core so the level design should be pretty simple now. But expect player’s animations I have no graphics yet. And sounds… don’t even mention it.

A hell of a work behind me and a hell of a story in front of me!

After one day I finished almost all game mechanics yet I haven’t even started to work on graphics and animations :) I am going for very minimalistic style because I want to bet more on story-driven experience this time. There is still lot of work so see you later :)

Ready to begin!

PlayerCodingGreetings from Slovakia! This time I’d like to create something more story-driven, if possible, so I’m really curious about the theme.

My tools:

» Stencyl as the game engine
» Photoshop for some pixels
» GarageBand on iPad for music
» BFXR and Audacity for sounds

Good luck to everyone!

Beyond my expectations

Hello everyone! Judging has ended and I am really satisfied with the results. I’ve made some estimation before and besides the fun category I have ended beyond my expectations. I’m aware that my game isn’t very fun to play though. I didn’t manage to implement real game mechanics during the compo, yet I’ve made great foundations. If I found some time in the near future, I will try to expand the game to be as planned. In the table below you can see comparison between results, my expectations and results of my previous LD entry.

Anyway, this was my second Ludum Dare (my first was #23) and I can see significant improvements. I am really looking forward to the next one! If you didn’t already, you can still play my game here. Thanks everybody and cheers!

Life of a Geek – Timelapse

Hello guys!

I’ve just created this timelapse video, so if you want, you can check out how the Life of a Geek was developed:

And don’t forget to

Life of a Geek is ready for you!

Hello guys! I’ve already finished my game yesterday but weren’t able to write a post about it yet.

Screenshot (9)

I’ve worked on it for more than 35 hours, with total sleep time less than 10 hours. I have to say I’m very satisfied with the overall quality. I left myself lot of time to polish the graphics and I really enjoyed playing with details. But what surprised me the most is the quality of sounds in the game. All the sounds were recorded on my mobile phone using pre-installed voice recorder, and the background music was made with GarageBand app on my iPad.

Regarding the features, everything in the game is more or less according to plan. Unfortunately I weren’t able to implement some features as the needs of a player and fulfilling them, so the only goal in this game is to explore it. The game contains various interactions with the environment that are made to be fun.

I hope you’ll enjoy my game and I am excited to try out what you guys made!

Have a nice day!

Graphics almost done!

I’ve done most of the game graphics and also some background music, but there is just 8 hours till the end! Now it’s time to make the environment interactive. If everythings go allright, I will create GUI and the needs of main character after that.
