I’m in! Santa’s delivering presents to Area 51 in the middle of April

I wasn’t planning to join in this year because I’ve been super busy, but I changed my mind at the last minute!

My idea is about Santa (and potentially the Easter Bunny, depending on time) breaking into Area 51 to deliver a present to a child there. Santa picks up an MK Ultra mind-control gun along the way…

It’s quite an ambitious project for 48 hours, so I dunno if it’ll make it into the compo. Maybe the jam though?

Here’s my toolkit!

  1. HaxeFlixel
  2. VIM
  3. Tiled
  4. GIMP
  5. Linux

I’ll be releasing the source code on github later!

Me too! Me too! I’m in!

Woo! 3 hours to go!

I’ve done a couple of Jams before (creating My Little Terrorist and Less) and this time around I’m entering the Jam again with @NerdOfGamers (a.k.a. KJScott) and @db434 (a.k.a. Dan).

I’m going to stream the whole thing. There’ll be hot beats and (if my team mates are cool with it) webcam and microphone too!

My setup will be:

  • VIM and IPython in place of an IDE ’cause I’m hardcore like that.
  • Python with Pygame for code.
  • If I have to do graphics, I’ll do it with GIMP, although I believe KJScott likes Paint.NET.
  • Most likely, sfxr for sound effects and autotracker for music.
  • Platforms will be PC, Linux. Mac‘ll probably work but we won’t be testing it ourselves.

After sleeping, we’ll start streaming around 10.30am in the UK, 9.30am UTC, 3.30am CST. Come and join us!

Less – a sentimental point-and-click puzzle game

Hi guys, Tom here. I’m working with Brice on our Jam entry, Less, a sentimental point-and-click puzzle game. Brice is working on the code and music, and I’ll be doing the graphics and writing. I’m really new to (non-pixel) graphics and game writing, and it’s Brice’s first time working on music, so this has been quite an interesting experience for both of us so far!

In this game, the protagonist reminisces about his past while removing objects from his room. Each object induces nostalgia in the protagonist, but with a twist: you can choose which item relates to which memory! The ending you get will depend on which objects you linked to each memory. Remember that time you gave your wife flowers? Perhaps you’ll have a great future with her. Or do you remember the time you gave her a trash can instead? Maybe she was offended by that…

Keep an eye open for our game when we submit it on Monday! We’re really looking forward to playing your games!

My Little Terrorist

Hi guys!

I’m working in a team for the LD 72-hour Jam with @fractallambda and @nerdofgamers. The game we’re making is My Little Terrorist. I’m covering code, @nerdofgamers is on graphics, and @fractallambda is providing ideas!

My Little Terrorist

In this game you receive messages from sponsors of terrorism who want you to perform destructive acts, you collect resources for manufacturing bombs and then craft them, and you send your recruits on suicide missions for cash.

We’ll be posting more information and screenshots tomorrow!
