The thing I am the most excited about….

The thing I am the most excited about is the keynote video.
It’s my 6th LD and every single time I am getting goosebumps when I watch them.

It’s something special that we are doing here, and I love being part of it. Thank you people out there behind the scenes for every minute you spend to make this possible.

That means: I am in!

I will be using libgdx with the artemis-odb fork and possibly box2d(lights) as well as the Universal Tween Engine library.

Only if I happen to have a great idea for a 3d game I may use Unity. But usually I constrain myself to 2d.
My artemis/libgdx base code is here.

Got some time today to create something for the minild in unity. I am using unity for the first time and so far it is pretty awesome.

The game takes shape and you can try it here!

There is no win / loss condition yet though :)

I had a lot of fun today and I hope it’s the same for you. Looking forward to playing all the games that are being created this weekend.

cu tomorrow :)

Bestiam Dare LD28 Results

bestiamDare (1)

When LD28 started I posted some words about the Bestiam Dare initiative which asked everyone who has a pet at home to make a ludum dare related picture or video with it so we could have a collection of animal friends helping us throughout the LD. You can find the initial Bestiam Dare post with details here.

Unfortunately the idea didn’t get much response. Maybe people didn’t know about it, didn’t have time, don’t have pets or simply didn’t enjoy the idea. So I guess I won’t do this for the next LD but the few pics that have been tagged with bestiam dare are cute and I promised to share them, so here they are :) Thanks everyone who took the extra minute to do it :)

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the LD and especially to the top rated games!

Streaming your games!

Posted by (twitter: @timtipgames)
Saturday, December 21st, 2013 5:40 am

There have been streams all week, but not everyone had time to watch them or even get their own game played. So I thought I’d stream games today (not only) to give those people a chance.

Add your game too!

I’ll be starting to stream around 2PM GMT which is ~1.5 hours from when I am posting this. Here’s a graphic showing the timezones and clicking it will bring you to the timezone converter to check your own timezone.

Click to go to worldtimebuddy.com

I’ll be streaming for a few hours, depending on how many people are around, here:

Hope to see you and talk to you about our games :)

Hell Yeah:

This time I had fun.

I really did.

Nothing else matters.

The theme! OMG What have you, who upvoted it, been thinking!

I will try not to use tools that are promising but very buggy again.
That moment when you realize that not all things saved to a file are restored upon loading is pretty scary, but I have been able to work around it. I should contact the author because I probably know all existing bugs now ūüėČ

As usual the christmas party at work has to be the night before winter LD starts…

I start to get some routine with LDs. That’s a good and a bad thing actually.

In one level I used a background-color that is similar to the Unity default background-color. But I haven’t used Unity. I will never do that again cause people don’t like it.

My game has things to explore. Quickvoting mode will still work but you won’t get the whole picture. So please take the few extra minutes to finish the game should you try it.

… i submitted a compo game that rewards players for playing until the end. It will only take a few minutes more – but still…

Anyway, we’ll see what happens :) Right now the comments indicate that some people have actually seen it :)

I am sooooo happy with the result, I barely care :)

Congrats all you compo-daries, you rock :)

Good luck to all jammers for the last 5.5 hours!

… Balloon!

Took me forever to come up with sth. I am happy to have a fully physics driven game mechanic working.

I am confident that I will be able to finish my game tomorrow. I will also take some time to do the music tomorrow.

I am ludum daring since 16 hours and will get some sleep now. Wish you all a  productive time.

Oh and give them pets some love!

I am in too.

Also I will try to remind people of the Bestiam Dare that I initiated today. So if you need a break, find your pet and post a pic too!

Using libgdx, artemis entity framework (probably the odb fork), possibly box2d+lights, universal tween library. I may be using my¬†basecode¬†again. But I will probably start over because the basecode really isn’t that pretty, doesn’t do a lot of things and is still from my first LD (24) and I have learned a lot since then :) I am soooo excited :)

Bestiam Dare LD28 Edition

Posted by (twitter: @timtipgames)

bestiamDareWe are all going to spend quiet some time at home this weekend. Some of us are never alone, even if the family is not there, because there are quiet a few Ludum Dare pets around during the compo. A lot of pictures of pets have been posted during the last LD and I always enjoy seeing them when I find some short distraction on the LD blog during the competition.
[stextbox id=”warning”]So here’s the challenge for all of you owning house pets (or horses, or dinosaurs):

  • Take at least one picture/video of your pet(s) during the weekend that shows them being involved into your Ludum Dare creation!
  • Post them with a progress report or your “I’m in” post or your “I’m done” post or a dedicated Bestiam Dare Post just
  • make sure to add a “Bestiam Dare” tag to your post!

If there are enough pictures I will create a collage/wallpaper. If not – we will still get some cute pictures :)

I’ll start with this picture of my cat that I just took:

[stextbox id=”info”]You can use this link to view all posts tagged with “Bestiam Dare” already[/stextbox]I asked for pet pictures after the last LD in this thread, and never posted a collection of all the cuties that were posted. So read on for some inspiration for your own contribution!

Seeing And Perceiving – Unfinished

Posted by (twitter: @timtipgames)

I also “finished” my “game”. Or at least I don’t have time to work on it any longer for a while. It doesn’t have any real gameplay elements. But it is more than just a personal tech-demo. As I didn’t have the time to explain things in the game I will have to make a video. Everything in the “game” is different than normal. Especially the controls and the visual part. But it all has a reason. I was able to add saccadic supression and saccadic motor-control today but I don’t have more time now. I might elaborate on it some more in the future. I have some problems with the executables and dependencies so you can’t even try it right now. But here are some screenshots:

Seeing And Perceiving

I think I am done for today. I wanted to make a game where the player could only see what the retina in the humans eye is actually producing as the output signal (or at least something that fits the abstract description of things going on in the very first steps of the visual system).

This was the first time I did something in 3D  (and my experience in C++ is limited). So it turned out to be a bit too ambitious. I managed to load assets from Blender into the engine of my choice (Horde3D) and I finally was able to integrate some shader based lighting. Horde3D is only a rendering engine so I also had to spend some time on input handling. As I had planned I spent most time of today with shaders and am really happy that I was able to get at least two shaders done that are close to what I had in mind when I started with the aforementioned idea. Nothing special, but you guys know how awesome it feels when you are able to accomplish and understand such things for the first time :)

I made a video showing what I have done, although the compression artifacts are pretty bad.

I probably will integrate saccades tomorrow. That should be sufficient to actually make it a game (I have an idea for that). Depth of Field would be nice too (shader-frenzy!).

I had a blast doing this stuff. I am thankful for high level (even higher than C++) programming languages.
