Update #1

early-screenshot

So just over 5 hours into Ludum Dare 32 and I don’t have particularly much to show off, a lot of what I have done so far is experimentation and deciding on what idea to persue.

When first thinking about the theme, ‘An Unconventional Weapon’, my initial thought was the ‘cat launcher’ from Family Guy. Since this is Ludum Dare, I would be very surprised if someone didn’t work on that idea!

The next best idea I came up with was creating a co-operative game where players used each other as a weapon. The players would be connected via a bungee rope and would move opposite ways to build tension then release to slingshot them around the game world.

This idea has moved away from being highly co-operative since I found it difficult to get the bungee effect that I wanted between 2 players and I have moved onto one where you use some sort of bungee cable to latch onto things in the game world (boxes, barrells etc.) and pull them to you, taking out enemies on its way.

So right now I am working on the part where the player throws the bungee cable out to attach to objects.

I haven’t quite decided on a theme for the game yet, I might work on making it a multiplayer game initially before moving onto a single player implementation of it.

I’ll keep you posted!

This was originally posted on our teams blog at http://meteoritegames.com/blog/.

As is customary with Ludum Dare; everyone posts something stating their commitment to participating in Ludum Dare and what their tool set is going to be. This is Meteorite Games saying “We are in!”, at least most of us are anyway. Our team will consist of:

  • Kai – Designer and Programmer
  • Connor – 2D Artist
  • Daniel – 2D Artist
  • Alex – 2D Artist and Animator
  • Tim – Programmer

Since we are a team, we will be participating in the 3 day jam, with the relaxed rules which means there may be a possibility of bringing back “the mouse” from Project Limitless! As for tool set, we will mostly be going with tools we are familiar with which include:

  • Engine: Unity
  • Language: C#
  • Art: PhotoShop
  • Sound: Haven’t decided, just depends on who gets stuck with doing sound.

We will probably be looking at creating a 2D game since that is what most of the team feels most comfortable with in order to create a game in 72 hours. Also Tim will probably be putting together a time lapse using Chronolapse to show the progress from inception to completion or thereabouts.

Even though the university semester is in full swing and there is probably millions of other things I should be doing, I am going to make a game for Ludum Dare 27!

I will be looking to compete in the jam since I won’t have much time to work on the first day of LD and I am really just aiming to have something complete by the end of it.

I will be using:

  • Unity3D – but look for more of a 2D game
  • GIMP/Inkscape – whichever is needed for the occasion
  • BFXR
  • OBS – for streaming my progress on my Twitch.tv channel which is http://www.twitch.tv/timmahh91

I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with and if I find time in the week following LD27 I will probably try and stream me playing some of the games people come up with!

Good luck everyone!

I’m in! 2nd time around!

Looking forward to my second ludum dare and my primary goal is to actually get something finished this time around.

Language: Actionscript 3

Library: Flashpunk

IDE: Flash Develop

Graphics: Graphics Gale or Inkscape depending on pixel art or vector art

Sound: Undecided (suggestions are welcome on easy to learn sfx and music creators)

Again I can’t wait to see what everyone puts together!

Now I’m Ready!

Just got home from getting supplies, which mostly consist of muesli bars, biscuits, energy drinks and juice and now I have a little under 18 hours to relax and play games before the theme is revealed.  This is my first time competing in Ludum Dare and I can’t wait to get started. Anyways I thought I would make a submission for the desk photo page since I tend to find these quite interesting to take a look at so here’s mine:

Any questions you have I would be more than happy to answer as best I can.

Cheers and good luck all!

Well just got my results from my first year of university so I’m on a high right now and really can’t wait until next weekend. So as for what I’m using:

Language: Actionscript 3

Library: Flashpunk

IDE: Flash Develop

Graphics: Inkscape

Sound: sfxr and Audacity

I’m hoping to put something together for Warm-up Weekend although it will probably come early this week since I’m working the night shift for the next few days. I’ll probably contribute to the DeskPhoto and FoodPhoto galleries and create a timelapse video using Chronolapse.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone puts together!
