We make games.
Well we spent about 10 hours in total on this mini-ld. The idea we had didn’t turn out as we’d hoped. So in a sense it was a failure. However, on the other hand we’re pumped with the amount of work we got done in under 10 hours.
We set out to create a fantasy Rock-Paper-Scissors. Well, and it that sense we succeeded. It’s just not as much fun as we’d envisioned
But why not check it our for yourself, I’m sure you’ll get a little bit of a kick out of it: Siegfried vs. Skeletons

Simon here, from The Grey Studios team with my late post mortem for the LD23 Jam. I was responsible for the graphics for our Ludum Dare Jam game called “My Little Dungeon”. I recommend you play it if you haven’t already… and rate it. Thanks!
So this is an overview of the 3 days and what we did from my own perspective. This means it is my perspective and Stefan and Gavin may have different views on things.
There were two first time things for me with this game:
- It was my first Ludum Dare game for me.
- It was the first time I did pixel art animations at all.
The tools I used:
- GraphicsGale (All animations and most of the pixel art)
- Photoshop (Some art/logo and some reworks and cutting/layer-work)
- PyxelEdit (I used it for previewing the tilesets)

After almost 72hrs and absolutely no brains left between our ears.. We’re done!

We’re still going. Doing lots of polishing touches on “My Little Dungeon”. Mechanics as well as balancing the whole thing into something that is fun and challenging!
Quick recap of the game mechanics:
In “My Little Dungeon” you build a dungeon for your hero to fight through. Your hero will fight monsters, find loot and weapons and evade tricky traps. You have to make sure that the hero will be strong enough to face the ultimate enemy.. But push him too much you’ll kill him!
Quick update: Basic battle system is implemented and the hero can now successfully beat the crap out of the little skeletons. Music is mostly finalised, sfx are there.
Sounds like we’re almost there – But we’re not The game is not anywhere near close to where we want it to be! But we’re loving the way it’s coming along. We proudly present you the latest screenshot out of “My Little Dungeon”:
We’ve been hard at work on our Jam entry! The hero can now find his way around the dungeon and walk down the levels. Pretty excited how this is turning out.
The basic premise of the game is simple: Build a dungeon that will strengthen your hero. Build it too difficult and you’ll kill him. Along the way the hero will find treasures and potions and just be a hero in general. Once he’s strong enough you can let him face the ultimate enemy.
Still lots to get done! But it’s finally starting to take shape
We’re working on a mini RPG called “My Little Dungeon”. Instead of directly controlling the hero you get to build a dungeon for him to work his way through until he’s strong enough to defeat the ultimate enemy.
So far you can build a basic dungeon.
Gavin has already cooked up some awesome tunes to go along. Well – we’ll update later on with some more stuff.. Once there is more stuff
