Relay – a game about morse code and christmas

Posted by (twitter: @_jonreid)

Made some more progress, finished the core game loop, so now its just polishing things up a bit more.

My game is about using morse code to relay messages from the front line during ww1, specifically the few days before the famous christmas truce of 1914.

So I’m calling it a night for now, a whole bunch to do tomorrow…

My general idea is to do a more serious game than I usually do, and using the two button theme to make a game about sending out morse code messages.

Need to finish up the game loop tomorrow now that I know what I’m making, add in a few menus and do a bunch of writing. Should be doable… just.

Bubble Trubble – continuation

I ended up really liking my bubble based puzzle platformer – Bubble Trubble – and decided to keep developing it and turn it into a full game!

I’ve created a better level editor, that runs in game for future community level editing, and I’ve tightened up controls thanks to all your amazing feedback on my game.

I’ve also added wiimote controls!

And I’ve added better bubbles!

Let’s see where this thing goes, eh?

Bubble Trubble is done!

After wrestling with WebGL builds for a few hours, my game Bubble Trubble is done. Be warned other Unity WebGL users, the latest Google Chrome update breaks the js that runs the builds, and theres nothing we can do about it :( http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/uncaught-abort-at-error-only-in-chrome-42.319121/

Anyway, check out my game and let me know what you think!

My “Unconventional Weapon” here is bubbles! Use them to catch enemies, bounce them around or even as platforms.

Play Bubble Trubble now!

As the first day comes to an end here in the UK, I’m posting the latest update. I’ve added in some basic graphics, and it really ties the room together.

I’ve added in a few levels, with some more to go tomorrow. But overall, I’m pretty happy with progress and I think I’ve got something quite fun.

Heres a gif with the first two levels that I’ve made.

Stopping for lunch now, but I’ve made some good progress. Added in the player controller, and a basic enemy, also added in level loading and completion states so I can just add content now.

Enemy just chases the player for now, but ensures you have to use bubbles to get him out the way.

After spending a good while this morning not being able to think of anything that fit the theme, I decided upon a puzzle game about trapping things in bubbles and moving them around with bubbles.

My progress so far: I have bubbles that you draw and they capture things. So I have something to work with, still got a long way to go…

SNOMAN is complete

And with a few hours to spare!

Another Ludum Dare completed with a game i’m fairly happy about!

I’m wondering if people will “get” the controls, or get the fact that they are meant to be stupid hard, but time will tell.

Still, you can bowl penguins over in it, so whats not to like?

I added in penguins, just because.

Bit of progress

So I’ve been working on this idea today. Got distracted by another idea for a few hours so im a little behind where I’d like to be, but it seems like its coming together nicely now.

The general idea is that its a difficult-control game where you have to get the snowman to the end of the lane without destroying him.

Yeah, sure I’m in too

Haven’t taken part in a while, so why not!

I’ll be using:

Unity, with a collection of my own libraries (view framework and mesh/graphics tools)

Maybe cinema4D if I need to do some 3d modelling.

Audio will most likely be either generated or from the marvellous jam assets being provided this time round.

I did it!

Love connection is finished!

Pretty pleased with this one, quite enjoyed the process of making something super quick, and just to stick to one core idea. I’ve seen some amazing games being made over the weekend so good luck to everyone!

I’m throwing confetti over myself as I’m writing this.

Almost done now.

Its getting really close to done, I need to re write pretty much all the text in it, but then I’d be happy to call it complete.

Heres some lovely screen shots and the latest build.

Done a lot today. Just added in some rough menus and changed some of the colours around. I also added in all the levels i planned out.

Need to add in the narrative tomorrow, also music if I get round to making it. And a title screen. Got to make one of those. Frameworks are so dull.

Made a dirt quick level editor and added in two whole levels to play through. I also added in confetti when the levels complete!

What I’ve built so far

Added in multiple coloured path support, added in victory animations when a path is complete.

When all paths are complete, thats when you will be able to progress, need to add in somewhere to go though first.

Heres a little demo:

Need to add in levels and a narrative to the whole thing. Feeling good about this one.
