I’ve been having trouble finishing projects lately so I decided to do something simple. I made a small two player party game called SmackDown which blends platforming mechanics with competitive play. I would highly recommend grabbing a friend and giving this game a whirl! It’s a really simple concept but I got some good learning out of it so i’m grateful, if you have any advise/criticism I would love to hear it. Cheers!
At long last the jam is over and the game is finished (well, mostly at least xD). This was my third attempt at Ludum Dare and my first time successfully finishing. I have finished other game jams in the past but the fact that I had failed two times before made me want to try again. I worked with a friend of mine who did the animation and helped with design while I worked on art, level design, and code. Upon hearing that the theme was going to be shapeshift I immediately got to work brainstorming ideas and my friend came up with a very interesting idea for a shapeshifting platformer.
Early Gameplay Mockup:
I got to work prototyping and soon came up with some interesting mechanics. My next task was the artwork, and while art is definitely not one of my strengths I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.
Early Art Mockup:
Art Ingame:
I didn’t manage my time very well for the jam so I ended up spending most of my time on prototyping and art. I didn’t have much time to design levels so the game is very short but it has some interesting mechanics and stylistic choices. I learned a ton from this jam and i’m also happy to say that I’ve finally completed a Ludum Dare Jam successfully. I plan on updating this game in the future to add more levels and polish to it. Thanks for everything Ludum Dare I had a blast!
Game Screenshots:
Character animations looking great! I’m running out of time though so i’ll probably have to submit unfinished :/
That moment when everything seems to break at one and you gotta fix it all in a hurry:
It’s day 2 (for me at least xD) and I’ve been doing a lot of work on the atmosphere and the game environment. It’s looking pretty good so far (forgive my poor tiling) !
I got started a little late but i’m still chugging along. I have a lot of the prototyping done and I’m working on some cool art. Heres some of the character art that I’ve slapped together:
Looking for a holiday game jam to participate in? Look no further than the SUPER MLG CHRISTMAS GAME JAM! It’s a Christmas themed jam on GameJolt that runs until the 27th of December. The winners will be featured on my YouTube channel. This jam should be loads of fun and I hope to see some of you folks there!
~Keep it indie~
This theme has me like
I decided to participate in the IndiesVsGamers Jam recently and I was very excited because I missed last years big jam on GameJolt (IndiesVsPewDiePie). One of the requirements was that your game had to use GameJolt scoreboards which was hard for me to implement because I had never used it before but ended up being worth it in the end. I created an endless runner called Rooftops. It was a very enjoyable experience for me and I learned a ton as a result of this jam! I think my game turned out pretty well and i’m excited to see where the community decides to rank it! You can check it out Here if you want to
Hey guys,
I just finished a game that I made for the Indie Cup 2015 Jam on GameJolt. I made it in under 72 hours to warm up for the upcoming Indies Vs Gamers Jam and it turned out surprisingly well. It was a ton of fun to make and I hope to add more content and further polish it in the future. Feel free to check it out Here if you want and constructive criticism is always welcome!
