Post compo thoughts for LD37

I don’t feel like I am a good enough programmer. I mean I am at a point where I can pretty much make an algorithm for whatever I can think of. But when it comes to coding that, I can’t. this ludum dare was a good example of that. It taught me how inexperienced I am. In 48 hours, I was only able to get a room simulation running and that’s it. I procrastinated a lot. My idea was not that great and the execution of that idea was… Not enough to make a good game.

So overall, this could be the worst jam for me. But I have seen other games. You guys did an amazing job, like always. Being in here, jamming with you all gives me insight, inspiration… Everyone is really creative here. I mean I have seen so many good games that I couldn’t have think at all.

I would like to say thank you for being here in this jam all the way through. I love how everyone in this community is helpful to each other. It’s like we are improving together and hopefully we’ll do better each time.

Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself. Hope you all had fun for the compo and congrats for finishing it in time :)

Also, my game is here, if anyone is interested to look at a teen simulator 😛

Game Jam

Hopefully, this jam was enlightening for you all :) See you in the next one!

I’m down this time

Unfortunately I’ll be on vacation this weekend, and will not be joining the fun. Hope you all have good fun and get a good game going guys.

Keep up the good spirit! :)

Everybody is doing awesome stuff…

…and here I am, trying to figure out how to code chess logic…

For those who doesn’t get what’s happening, there are phases in the game which morphs the pieces into their more powerful states. Both sides can get the bonus, but the phases are random. So chess is now a luck based game. Because why not? This is ludum dare for ya 😛

PS: I know Rook looks like a hammerhead shark, I’m not gonna bother with the graphics anymore. Lost too much time already 😀

Hey LDers!

Hopefully if nothing goes wrong, I’m in. For LD#34, things went very wrong and I wasn’t able to finish my game, mostly due to my inexperience with the “Jamming”.

Now, I’ll try to do my best and not come up with a complicated game that I can’t finish in time 😛
Löve2D or Construct for framework.

Photoshop/Illustrator/aseprite for graphics.

FL Studio for music.

Audacity and bfxr for sounds.

I’m out, sadly

Hi everyone,

Hope you had fun in LD#34! This was my first Ludum Dare and I sure had a lot of fun and learned a lot of things.

As being a novice in Love2D, I couldn’t make far, had problems with importing the script, running shaders, etc. Hopefully I’ll do better in the next ludum dares!

I was making a game about life. How we grow without noticing, how we change in time. When our main protagonist was a child, he discovered an ability of his to control the time. Even though he could keep his memories while traveling through time, he couldn’t keep his shape. Eventually, we were gonna be able to shape our life, knowing what we did right or wrong.

It was also a two button scripted game. You only change the time and by doing so, you change the map.

Too Late, an unfinished game by Tharky.

(for some reason this gif doesn’t play until you click on it)

But I’m not going to be able to finish it in time, so I decided to let it go this time.

I’ll try my best to try others’ games though. I’d love to see what you guys came up with.

Take care, have fun and don’t lose it like I did, you can do it!

We’re in!

It’s going to be my first Ludum Dare!

I will be joining this LD with a friend of mine. I’ll be doing the sounds/graphics, even though I’m a programmer myself (I use Löve2D), he’s better with gm than me with löve and someone has to do the art stuff 😛

We’ll be using Game Maker Studio with exporters, sfxr, probably LMMS for music and aseprite for pixel art (or another program if we decide not to go with pixel art).

He said he won’t be joining so I’m alone in this now. I’ll be using Löve2D for engine, sfxr (or bfxr) and audacity for sound, FL Studio for music, aseprite or gimp for graphics. Since I’m a beginner, I don’t know if I can use any libraries or not, I’ll update here if I use libs. I’m aiming for a mostly story-based innovative game, not a generic one.

Good luck to everyone who’s going to participate! Keep the game dev. fire going!
