Originally wanted to participate in the Jam, but everything went better than expected so I decided to submit my game today. After all the hard work, it’s finally time to get some re… I mean… time for a heavy metal concert.

I was about to participate in this LD, but I didn’t prepare it well enough. I wanted to try the libGDX library/game engine, but I didn’t set it up before the compo started. So day 1 I was mainly busy getting this fixed, thinking of a game concept and partly recovering from friday’s party. At the end of the day I had nothing but the result of a quick tutorial.

Day 2 I couldn’t bring up the motivation to continue with the challenge, so I continued on my own pace and took my time to learn about the libGDX framework and game design.

I’m in!

A bit late, since I still have to setup my IDE/libraries.

I am planning to use libGDX. Never used it before and I want to try it during this LD. I like the theme, and I’ve already seen some pretty interesting WIP by the community. As for me, I still have no idea of a game concept, but there still is enough time. (maybe)

2nd time LD for me. Enjoyed the first time and learned a lot during the compo, so now it’s time to make something more awesome.

Will be using C++ and probably the SFML library. For sound fx I’ll probably record my own, or use sfxr and for graphics I’ll use Paint.NET/Gimp.

Windows version

I have ported my game to windows. Took some effort but I managed to do it. Check it out here!

Now there is only an issue with the sound/music. It’s not playing. I think there’s something wrong with the .wav files. When I open them in audacity I can see that there is sound, but I can’t hear anything.

I feel like my game is finished, so I submitted it! The work is not yet done however. I still want to have a windows executable. I built the game in linux and at the moment I only have the source code online, which uses the SDL libraries, but I couldn’t manage to build a windows version. I hope people will be able to play/judge my game.

SDL Sound issue

So, I’m having this issue with SDL not able to open my sound device in Ubuntu. I haven’t found a way to solve it, so until now I haven’t been able to work on the sound of the game. I have seen a lot of people also using SDL. So I thought maybe someone has had the same problem and found a way to solve it.

Edit: Ok I have ‘solved’ the problem and I feel really stupid. For some reason SDL outputs that ‘there is no soundcard’. And because I didn’t hear my sound effects, and after some googling, I thought it was an SDL issue. But right now I was managing my assets and put them in another folder, but ‘cp *.wav data’ couldn’t find any .wav files. That’s when I found out the sound effect wasn’t loaded at all, because I load ‘explosion.wav’ instead of ‘explosion’. Now the sound works, but somehow there’s still the ‘there is no soundcard’ message. :/

So, here’s a little update of my progress. The gameplay is nearly finished. The game is a space invaders like game with only one button to control! Every time you press the button the button will have a new random function (move in 1 of 4 directions or fire). You can see a preview of the next two moves to plan your moves. The goal is (obviously) to destroy all enemy thingies by shooting them. Right now I’m working on some game logic like scores and level progression.

6 Hours in

Of the 6 first hours, I have spent 4 hours on the challenge and 2 hours on driving lessons and breakfast. I’ll share what I have accomplished so far.

As you can see, it is a space invaders type of game. So far I’ve implemented controls, firing, collision between enemies and bullets. And awesome enemy sprites! As for the next steps, I’ll first implement the other collisions and then I’ll write better AI. The ‘only one’ theme is also already implemented, but I’m not telling in what way yet. I’ll keep it as a surprise :)

Hello there, this will be my first Ludum Dare. Have tried joining before, but due to real-life getting in the way I was hindered. This time I want to go for it and give it my best shot!

I will be programming in C++ using the SDL library. For graphics I will use GIMP, for sound I will use sfxr. I’m afraid the game will be music-less. Maybe I’ll use Audacity to record/make some music, but this won’t be my focus at all.

I wish everyone good luck with the Ludum Dare (yes, you too!!)

Ok this is a theme i had voted for, but I actually dont have any ideas for a game now 😛

Going to make a 2D platformer, maybe in some ancient ruin or something??

I don’t have all the time available, so probably i still don’t have a working game before the deadline. :(

But f*ck it! If I don’t make it in time, I’m just going to set my own deadline, and finish it later. 😛

Anyways, have fun coding everybody 😀

First Time For Me

Hi guys!

I read about this compo on my way back to home and I think it will be fun to participate in it. I don’t know if I will use C# or Java or maybe something else, first I need a theme and then I will see. :)

I think I’m going to use sfxr and musagi for audio (never heard of them, but they seem easy to use) and for the graphics probably MS paint. xD

I don’t have much experience in making games, but this is the perfect opportunity for me to see what I’ve got. 😀
