So I saw what we had to work with and then I thought….
But then I had another thought. “You only get one…THEME”
Imagine it. 2D, side scroller, pixel art, a guy sitting in his room, with a giant beard and a can of coke, a cat sitting on the bed waving it’s little striped grey pixel tail. The monitor illuminates the pixelized room with a blue glow.
Then you get a selection screen. At the top it says “Ludum Dare #1” with a random selection of themes based on all passed Ludum Dare contest. Then you have to decide. What your game will be based on. (Yes, I’m aware this is not how Ludum Dare works, but my excuse is–whatever). So from this list, selected from multiple real LDs, you have to pick the one out of all of them that was the most successful.
After you pick the player gets a very brief typing animation, “making” a game. If you succeeded you get a kitten, or a goldfish. that decorates the room. If you fail, your character evolves a pimple.
Rinse and repeat until either you have turned into a cat/fish hoarder, or you have evolved into a necromorph-like, pimple-covered monstrosity.
By the way, this isn’t what my game is about. <.<
(This post inspired by the ridiculous number of top achieving games about fish, kittens, and evolution)
