Beginner Artist Looking to Join a Jam Team

Hi everyone! I am currently getting into drawing and want a challenge and a way to practice my art skills. I sometimes have trouble finding things to draw of and was wondering if anyone would want to collaborate on a ludum dare Jam project to make a game!

If you are interested in making a team, you can tweet me @swipefaststudio and we can keep in contact through skype as well. Thanks everyone! Good luck with the Jam!

Here is an example of my art: It is a simplistic version of an Apartment building. I want to get better at drawing sprites for characters and scenes and animation. I currently use Gimp and Paint.Net.

I have been wrestling with my networking idea for a while now.

The game idea seems cool, and outside of the box but I don’t know how to make it fun or challenging!

I don’t know if I should start over and try to think of a better and more simple game!

What do you think? Start over and finish? or keep trying and possibly not finish? xD

so hard to think of ideas, might just go into the jam so I can finish this!

3 hours into the Jam, Feels like forever!

Tried one idea but that failed so I thought of another!

This will be a bit of a complicated Game to play at first but should be fun!

Here is a Time Lapse of what I’ve done so far in Gamemaker Studio : Time Lapse

It is out of the box idea, basically you are a IT Server Manager and have to keep your servers running and your clients happy and connected all over the world!  Let me know what you all think!

Here are some images of the interface and deleting viruses process! These are all just ideas, subject to change!  Off to bed!

Hi everyone!

I am in for this Ludum Dare and want to make a complete finish of my game!

Last time I tried but failed to use my creative side effectively and efficiently so this time I will learn from my mistakes, take breaks, draw out some ideas, and not rush into one idea before thinking it through! I also want to brainstorm first to see my options, enemies, player, and situations the game could be done!

I also need to get more sleep haha to keep going throughout the competition!

I will be using Gamemaker:Studio Standard edition!

Also using my guitar, bass, electric guitar or piano for the music and possibly my blue snowball iCE microphone to record with Audacity!

I also did a warmup game : http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-30-warmup/?action=preview&uid=24642

Hope you all survive this competition!

We’ll see if I finish in time for the 48 hours or the Jam!

Good Luck and Have Fun!

Hi everyone! I am going to be using Unity 4.3 for the first time and was wondering if there is a strong learning curve to it? (In for the Jam)

I plan on doing tutorials and make a game today before tomorrow!

If you have any tips let me know!

Also I see how it says you get a 30 day trial of Unity Pro does that mean you can still use Unity standard version after that and still export games?

Let me know please in the comments!

I’m excited to join in!

Good Luck everyone! Vlogs updates will be on my youTube channel: SwipeFastStudios!

Hi everyone!

I’m excited to say that it’s Summer for me and that means I can join in on this Ludum Dare Competition coming next weekend!

I am going to be using Python and Pygame 3.3 to program my game and going to try to learn enough to make a simple game for the compo and if not in time to memorize everything, I will enter the Jam so I can at least finish the game and learn a lot in Python and Pygame!

I am still searching for an easy solution to export pygame’s for all OS’ and if any of you have solutions to this problem please comment below to help me out!

I can’t wait to finish a game with Pygame and I hope this is the weekend that I will do it!

Happy programming everyone! Good luck and Have Fun!

Hello everybody!

I am going to try to make a Text based game in Java because I started late and I still have one more exam to write!

Still have to think of how to involve the theme but I have ideas! :)

Hope everyone has fun!

Good luck!

Hi everyone

****I posted new questions about compilers and editors in the comments please read them :) ****

I am an experienced programmer and know a few languages.

I want to start making games with a windows 7 computer for any operating system (linux, Mac and Windows).

I do not know which is the best coding language to use for that that is free But has a good compiler and runs well. I also do not want to use software like gamemaker or construct. Something like c++ or java or love2D so please take that into consideration!

Also what libraries would I need for 2D games for now to make it with.

Thanks so much for your help in advance! I really want to become some kind of game devloper so this is key.

Hope you all are having fun in the ludum dare! Expect me to be ready for the next one!

Hope my questions make sense!

Please comment!

Text Base Adventure Game for LD

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if we are allowed to make a text based game for the ludum dare?

I am going to be using python with pygame and was wondering if it was okay to use just text in the game.

I will have stuff like inventory and choices and maybe ascii graphics and sounds, but I just wanted to make sure that it was okay!
