This will be my second LD and I have made some preparation for it. Muhahaha

After the last LD, i started to develop my own game engine and now it’s capable of making small games.


DartRocket: This is my own open source 2D HTML5 game engine in Dart.

Piskelapp: I will use this for making “art”.

Bfxr: Making sounds for the game.


My main goal is to make a fun game with DartRocket and to get better scores this time.

So what did i implement in my engine?

  • Background is working and can be animated.
  • Text class is made more simple to use.
  • New Sound class for making sounds and playing them.
  • Reworked the Space Invader example: moving background, score, sound for shooting.

It’s a fair amount of work, but I’m not too happy because i had to think about how to implement some stuff and i think i wasted some time overthinking these problems.

I have already started making my tool after LD29, but i will submit for this event to see what do you guys think about it.

My entry will be a 2D HTML5 Game engine which can be used with the Dart language.  It’s name is DartRocket and you can already found it on github and on Pub(Dart package manager).  My plan is to make it a more usable during Tool Jam and I hope I can show that Dart is capable of making HTML5 games.

What went right:

  1. I fixed my state machine and now it works perfectly
  2. I realized that even i could make pixel game “art” with piskelapp
  3. I got a lot of great feedback about my game
  4. Game got a surprisingly good rating
  5. I had some really fun experience with Dart and StageXL

What went wrong:

  1. I didn’t expect the fixing that the state machine required
  2. I could only make one really short level for my game.  I had ideas for 3+ levels
  3. I had a name collision issue, so i could not change my background during play, although in the Dart version it works
  4. I used bounding box for collisions


This was really fun and I hope I can participate in the next ludum dare. This was a great experience for me.

Thanks to ludum dare, I started making my own game engine in Dart, so I hope next time, I will have a better weapon to fight against you guys.

My game sucks, but at last the first level is replayable. Finally my state machine can make it work. Now i have an endless first level.

Game became more like an experiment to test out my state machine and how Dart stream works, but at least now it’s playable.  I have to implement the pause-resume(stream functions) of a state so i can make a state replayable.

I really like that if the game works with Dartium, than built project will work in Firefox or Chrome. (I don’t know anything about IE or Safari)

I changed my state machine, so now it works with StageXL and looks more simple.

I made a loading screen which can’t be seen because i don’t have stuff to load. 😀

I made a simple menu for my game. The tittle of my game is “falling”.

I’m really happy that my states works like a charm and now i can start working on the actual game play.

I have got an idea, which will be a ball(or something else) falling down.  Obstacles, points, lives,traps and more.

Hopefully the speciality of the game will be the levels i thought out and so I can test my state machine. win-win

I just finished writing my own state machine in Dart.

Dartisians can grab it here:


It’s pretty basic,but works(except for one bug) . It uses streams so you guys can be as asynchronous as you want. It contains a small example.

It’s 02:00 here, so i will sleep in the first few hours. 😀

This will be my first entry.

I will use:

  • Dart programming language
  • StageXL rendering engine
  • Webstorm or/and  Dart Editor
  • Manjaro linux

My game will be on github and will be playable online.
