Space Attack post mortem

That was my fourth Ludum Dare participation and it’s probably my best game I’ve done. To start, sorry for my English, it’s not my first language. Here is a little screenshot.

SpaceAttack

I used C# and monogame to make my game. I’m very happy with that choice because I used my little custom engine to make my game so my focus was on the gameplay.

The good

– The creation of the gameplay. That was very fun.
– I was able to add an ending boss.
– I found a very very good music for my boss fight. I think the other music are very good too but I especialy love this one.
– I didn’t have a monster bug to fix

The bad

– It took a long time to find my idea. I started programming in middle of day saturday.
– I didn’t fix a bug where all shooting ball are the same. Normally, the enemy balls are suposed to be orange.

Conclusion

I think that was my best Ludum Dare. I hope I will be able to continue to work on this game. The first things I will do is add a great story. I have my little idea on that. After that, I will add new types of ennemies, new bosses, new attack patern, new power up and new power up and new power up. lol.

If you want to try my game, you can go there : Space attack

Don’t hesitate to give me your comments. It will be appreciate.

I finally finish my little game. I have a lot of fun to make it. The goal of my game is to beat the last boss but before you can beat it, you must kill 250 littles ennemies. At first, it’s very easy but the difficulty increase at each 30 kills. For the boss fight, there is the boss and littles enemy. It’s not an easy one but remember, the old game was not easy. For the moment the game is working well. In the next couple of hours, I will try to add 1 or 2 others ennemies type and 1 boss if I have time.

Body Defence post-mortem

That was my third Ludum Dare and it’s probably my better game I had make in this competition. To start, sorry for my English, it’s not my first language. Here is a little screenshot.

I was supposed to use C# and monogame but I decided at last minute to try GameMaker. I’m very happy with that choice because I was able to do the core gameplay mechanic very fast so I was able to made all my little sprites and a second level.

The good

– My arts. It’s incredible how it was simple to make some pixel arts with tilestudio.
– I was able to make a second level
– Nothings wrong happen when I published my game
– I didn’t have a monster bug to fix

The bad

– My UI. I hate my UI (I will work on it later)
– It take a long time to have my idea. In fact, I found my Idea when I was taking my shower Saturday morning.
– It take some times to balance the towers vs enemies

Conclusion

That was my best Ludum Dare. I will continue to work on this game. The first things I will do is the re-factoring of my UI. After that, I will add some levels, new enemies, new tower,new tower upgrades and maybe a little story.

This was my first LD and I’m very proud of what I made.

What was good:

The idea:

I started to work 10 hours late , but I had a clear idea when I started.

My engine:

In general, the use of my engine was efficient. I had learn a lot of new things and I will update my engine with that.

xTile library:

The use of xTile library was very easy. It’s help me a lot for the displaying of my map.

What was wrong:

Collision detection:

I had a lot of problem with my collision detection. At first, the collision detection worked around 50% of time. I found the solution at the last day. That was a very simple problem. I didn’t take the right coordinate so the collision detection was offset.

Level too short

I didn’t have the time to make a longer level.

What was very good

All the comments from the community. Thanks everyone !

The future

I will participate in the next Ludum dare and before that, I will continue to work on my game to make it better. I would like to add more levels, power-up, obstacle and other stuff that I have in mind.

Conclusion

If you didn’t played my game, give it a try : http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=24796

Gratz to everyone that made a game in the last LD. I have try a lot of game and there is a lot of good games.

My first Ludum Dare

Yes!! I finished my first Ludum Dare game yesterday night. I was so inspired that I forgot to come and post a playable build sooner. But, it’s even better now because I can deliver you the final game. I still have some bugs to fix but I can send it in that state for now. To be able to respect the deadline, I had to change my first idea. If the player crash his car, the game is over. To pick up or lose time, there are objects with the number 10. Green adds time while the red decreases the time. There is a bug that I know when you want to take things. Sometimes, the collision detection is not working so you can’t get the power up. I’ll try to fix it before the deadline. If I can’t, it will be later when I can take the time to polish the game outside the competition.

Here is the link to my little game if it does not work, tell me as soon as possible so I can fix it.

Controls:

W = Accelerate
S = Brake (Cannot go below 100)
A = Move to left
D = Move to right
Space = Menu selection

Tank you for playing :)
