Almost 5 hours in, and what have i done? Only basic player moving and shooting in lifeless test cubes. So slow, as always…

Hello all,

good luck with rooms!

I am going in for fouth time. Currently on vacation in Goa, India, so jamming here will be interesting thing!

Very hot on temparature, but low on internet, will go to cafe for some wifi )

I think i am going to do first person shooter. Because i never done this before!

My first idea is “Galactic Arena”. It is a place where all space criminals, aliens, monsters from distant planets, mutants and mad robots are put in one room for the fight to the death! Surviver of each round is granted one wish to the god of arena (new weapon, heal, etc.)

Engine : Unity

Pictures : Photoshop

Models : Blender (using it for first time omg)

Sound : bfxr

Music : Some auto-generation i hope

As requested, i have uploaded sources to web : sources (Unity 3.5)

Also have done a timelapse video of entire development : timelapse (YouTube)

Tiny postmortem:

  • Unity rules!
  • Spent too much time on visuals (maybe it was worth it?)
  • Gameplay too simple (had no time to add more depth)

And two brand-new screens!

Now i made second enemy type, which can shoot – The Blevator.

Also hero robot now have life and can die.

I implemented planet random generation and jumping from one planet to another, but it is not working perfectly…

Still so much things are absent. Pickupables, updgrades, story, main charactert more enemies, more worlds.

I really dunno how to finish this, need some quick finalization.

Slowly starting to panic.

Now you can literally feel the rays of a shiny star burning your face.

Also have done some fancy effects of plasma bullets exploding with sparks and zombuses being gibbed out to pieces.

And some sounds.

Almost 12 hours in, progress is very slow… As in all previous LD’s. Y me no learn?

Around 6 hours in…Now i have some simple character, he can walk on planet with procedural leg animation and shoot bullets which fly, fall and explode.

Also have day and night side of planet, transiting smoothly.

Too slow of course, as always.  And i am kinda stuck – cant make simple trees looking good. Probably need some modelling here…

Dunno if i can accomplish something at all. No enemies yet, no anything…

Yeah, now i can properly walk on planet! Lost many time trying to achieve this, been in quaternion hell, ended using rigidbody instead of character controller.

 BTW, wondering how many of guys doing “walk on small planet” type of game )

Thinking about the idea, maybe something like small  planets, and you can travel between them…

Ok, i almost done…almost.

Good news – i have synthesised robotic voice for hero’s space boat!  Boat have superior artificial intellect. She will talk to hero and give directions.

By the way, at this site you can freely generate some voices with effects http://www.cepstral.com/demos/

Currently uploading short gameplay video, introducing first enemies and weapons. Fraps made me 1.5GB, dunno if i successfully upload this.

And, finally, there is screenshot of title screen, showing place where the game starts.

Working slowly, tired of this project, so many things still not even touched (
