Since last Ludum Dare (#34 for me) I’ve learnt Typescript and I’ll be trying to use it as much as possible, and maybe bringing in some box2djs if the theme is right. It’s a bank holiday weekend in England & Wales so I get extra time to play other entries! Hope the weekend works well for everyone!

Making sound effects is one of my favourite bits of Ludum Dare.

Morning/afternoon all,

I was ill yesterday and started this morning with no ideas and no code. My as-yet-untitled water pistol game is  3 hours old now and almost playable. Main challenge now is making the graphics so that it’s clear that the player is using a water pistol, and not in fact urinating.

This is my 5th Ludum Dare, I think. Probably using Javascript, or Opal to translate Ruby to Javascript. There are three themes in the running which I’m tempted to do an interactive fiction game in Inform 7 for.

I’ll be at MadLab in Manchester, UK with several other jammers for the first two days.

Very much looking forward to LD #30. The themes in voting at the moment look great.

If the theme suits I’ll be using my minimal Javascript/HTML5 game loop as base code, which is at https://github.com/jmacarthur/mini-javascript-loop, which I’ve stripped out of my LD #28 entry.

The twelfth Doctor Who makes his debut this weekend and “Time travel” is one of the things themes up for voting. So you could vote for that, if you like. Hmm.

Ludum Dare 29 coincides with the UK’s main Maker Faire in Newcastle. This means I’ll be spending the first day looking around other people’s electronics and craftwork, and hopefully coming away with some good inspiration.  I’ll also have a lot of time on the train. My challenge this time is not to write any code until Sunday.

If you’re in Manchester, UK on Sunday, there’s plenty of places left at MadLab where we’ll be getting together to finish and show off our games: http://madlab.org.uk/content/mcrgamejam-27-04-14/. Good luck, everyone. I’m looking forward to playing some great games.

Finished!.. but not submitted

I’ve got my game working with a couple of hours to spare. I’m not going to submit it for the competition, though, as it relies on a server and the communication is a horrific pseudo-AJAX hack which I don’t want to leave running while I’m asleep. It’s past midnight here, so maybe tomorrow I’ll find some people for a private test and submit it for the jam.

It’s been an unusual weekend, I woke up at 6am on Saturday, saw the theme and I knew what I was going to make within about 10 seconds :) I’ve just been coding and drawing straight through since then, with a short break for sleep. Pretty much everything worked out the way I’d planned on a sheet of paper at the start. A very rare event!

Here’s a photo from earlier today at HacMan in Manchester, UK . We had about 14 people working on Ludum Dare games. We’ve gone home to code more and sleep and we’re back in at 10am tomorrow to get some games finished and submitted.

Hi all, I’m helping to run the real-world LD gathering in Manchester, UK, we should have about 20 people doing either Ludum Dare or other rapid game things. It’s my first time doing this, I’ll be doing the jam, probably with PyGame or javascript & HTML5. Really looking forward to it!
