Ludum dare results are almost out and we want to let those who didn’t play our games yet to have a chance to rate it.

We couldn’t be happier with our game, Super Scrap Yard Employee. It received good judgements until now and we even got some streamers to play it!

Here’s a video the youtuber Noaksey posted:

You can try the game yourself here

Super Scrap Yard Employee

A bit from Super Scrap Yard Employee

Super Scrap Yard Employee got an upgrade.

It mostly fixes some bugs with the graphics and some of the ugly stuff there was before.

Now sprites aren’t as awfully small as before (though the upscaling isn’t perfect, but we are going to fix it) and the weapons have different characteristics between them (still a bit unbalanced).

The game now looks much better and we had positive responses to the new version. We already have many votes and feedback, we even were able to get someone to stream it.

We are quite happy with the game, but it’s still not perfect, so look forward to the next version 1.2 of Super Scrap Yard Employee.

Play Super Scrap Yard Employee here.

Indeed, it’s a game about a scrap yard employee.

Your job is to free the scrapyard from the evil dishwashers. The employee has some skills to help him and can grab objects from the ground to use as weapons.

ABOUT THE GAME

I created it with a friend of mine. I started suggesting the idea of a crossover between Dead Rising and Nuclear Throne, while he suggested a game based on the use of skills.

We joined the ideas in an arcade game with objects to pick up as weapons and skills to use when needed. The idea in the end got shrinked a lot, but there still are signs of both.

WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT

I mainly worked on the graphics of the game and I had fun. I discovered myself being quite a good pixel artist and I challenged myself making dozens of assets in just three days.

The assets and the code were developed really fast, so much that I am surprised about it.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT IT

I worked very hard on the game, probably more than I should have had. I got to do boring and repetitive tasks just for the sake of finishing the game, all of this just for a product that isn’t even as good as I would have liked to: the gameplay is way easier than I wanted and some functions weren’t even implemented. The graphics are nice, but some of them were ruined because of my tiredness.

WHAT I AM GOING TO DO

I am going to fix what I don’t like about the game in the next days : I am going to re-tile the map, I am going to fix the code and I am going to make the game overall more enjoyable.

my character’s walking cycle

I made an animation!

I am working on a game for the jam with a friend of mine. We started kind of late, since we had to sleep, but now we are up and working.

We split up the jobs with me making the most of the graphics and music and him doing most of the code.

I made in about an hour a sprite for the character and I got him to walk!

It looks kind of wacky, if any of you have any suggestion, please tell me.

Aside from the title deliberately inspired from Scrubs, indeed, I am in!

It has been quite a while since a partecipated. Strangely enough, though it was a year ago, I still remember every detail of it : the burning hot room, typical of Italy, the books piling up for the math test, the tiredness, caused maybe by the travel I went through or,  just maybe by the fact that I was up until 5 in the morning (it’s a genial idea to stand up until 5 am when you have a test).

I was so much younger at that time, I just realize it now looking backwards, and I made so much progress that I am kind of surprised : I learnt new languages, I got better and more ordinated at writing code, I learnt some new math concepts (physics, trigonometry, geometry) and I even got better at drawing and composing music.

It is maybe about all of that that I am in again : I want to prove that I am a better person than I was before. I am going to work hard and push my limits, because that’s what competitions are for. With some luck I might even be able to break some ranks!
