Sketchy progress!

Making an RTS about tiny pixel people that overgrow their settlements and have to move to attack their neighbouring populations! And again, and again…

37 hours left, I can make it! :)

I made a sketch of the general idea that is too big so I will cut all the features!

Also, I will stream when I have something cool to show! Hopefully in a couple of hours!

The Sostation

I recently moved and had an oppoturnity to arrange my studio up to my liking and this is what I came up with. Motorized standing desk and three wall mounted IPS screens! All necessary peripheals within the reach of a hand. Proper Gigabit networking all over the place and a small server I will probably not use. I built all this with Ludum Dare in mind!

And on my back there’s a small hardware lab in case I want to do something crazy!

This is the ultimate test of this setup! Let’s jam!

Wallpaper Madness!

I’m absolutely joining this LD and to commemorate, I have prepared this wallpaper for you!

Grab it here (1440p, 1080p, 720p):

On the inside, all computers are just calculators.

I’m super late due to having to deal with my car having holes in the roof and it raining the entire day, but I began on the game and it’s impossible to beat so I added a way to cheat!

You can edit memory and maybe even win! Let me know if it’s any fun or hard! There are at least several ways to beat the game.

Time to sleep!

Play Matchbox!

Matchbox is complete. I don’t know what kind of game this is.

Help me pick CGA color mode!

So, CGA has more color palettes than you’d think! Here are the default ones:

First mode is the standard CGA mode as you know it, it’s most widely used because it looks best on b/w monitors.
Second mode colours are devoid of blue component, and appear much darker on b/w screens
Third mode is ‘undocumented’ but I actually stumbled on it by accident. It has some quirks but it looks nice.

Switching them in-game is quite tricky, so I’d rather stick to one. Which one should I choose?

Matchbox has music and more levels now! I’m ready for tomorrow!

Writing everything from scratch takes some time, but I am having so much fun! The game is coming together nicely, I am getting used to awful CGA colours, and I need to test it on my black and white CRT screen!

I’ve been doing some optimisations as I go and it appears as if the game should run smoothly on a 12MHz 80286. 8086/8088 is kind of out of the question, though, if you played any games made for that you should know what I mean.

Actually you can only walk left and right 😛 BUT, you can walk left and right on your sweet new 286!

Works only under DOS and Windows 9x.

CGA is fun!

Wrote myself a tool to convert true-colour BMPs to CGA compatible blits and I have a fast and simple CGA blitter now. I need to draw more stuff!

Also, it appears I will have to load bigger graphics from disk on-the-fly rather than cache them given 64kb memory limit! I don’t want to deal with far pointers, oh no!

I might be falling behind but I will not give up! NEVAR!

The idea:
You’re a pyro with just one last match. Burn!

Time is running out!

I made this cool DOS clock app and am running it on a 9″ b/w CRT for coolness! It didn’t even break!

I need to make a game now, but look how much time I have left!

It is done! Please do not break your computers with it!

It still crashes!

But only after 10 seconds! Grab red thingies to speed up and overtake the glitch!

The memory is assorted so that linear glitching is represented pretty clearly on the screen. When glitcher gets out of video memory it continues to screw stuff up until generating a general protection fault.
Should crash exactly after 10 seconds at smooth 60fps. Shouldn’t go down even on 10yo hardware at all.

Don’t run under Windows 98, don’t debug, don’t run as administrator.
I heard it works under vine.

This game crashes in 10 seconds.
It literally traverses it’s own memory gltiching itself out. Don’t run as administrator, don’t run under Windows 95/98, don’t debug.
