5 hours in, still no idea

We’ll see if I come up with anything, but now it’s time for bed. I might just end up working on my current projects. I’ll start streaming development if anything comes to mind, though.

I’m back and woefully underprepared.

Doing this one solo, but I still think I’ll do the Jam. Let’s see what I come up with, despite being tired and hungry.

We can’t risk another man; that rabbit’s dynamite!

I’m in, but I was too busy working to make a post. I’m making a game about swarms of breeding bunnies that you have to prevent from leaving the screen, with some killer rabbits thrown in for good measure. With much difficulty due to my fatigue, I now have an online leaderboard. Now, sleep, but before I do, here’s a killer rabbit.

The blurriness of the rescaling reflects how tired I am.

Unsuprisingly, I bit off more than I could chew.

Well, if you read my previous post, I started the compo 3 hours late after being unsure whether I would participate at all. I was making decent progress, but running really low on sleep, so I overslept last night. I just don’t think I have time to put the Majora’s Mask-esque timed elements that make the core of this game, let alone the intro, endings and sound effects before 9PM, and I’ve got stuff going on tomorrow, so, unfortunately, I think I’m out. Though, I have made a post like this before where I came back a couple of hours later and finished, so we’ll see what happens.

Here are some screenshots of the work in progress:

I’m late, but I’m in for the moment

In the previous 3 Ludum Dares I’ve done, it wasn’t that hard to find an application of the theme. This time, I pretty much decided I wasn’t gonna enter because I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do for several hours after the theme went up. Finally, though, I’ve got a very rough idea for a game, and I’m gonna stream myself working on it starting in a few minutes at twitch.tv/solidplasma. I may end up doing the jam instead, if I feel it doesn’t turn out too well, but hey, you never know until you try. There’s always a chance I’ll give up in the middle, but to be fair, I’ve managed to submit something for the past 3 compos I’ve done. Wish me luck!

I’m done!

After wrestling with some UI issues, I removed all mouse control in favor of keyboard on the menus because the Mac port wouldn’t accept my mouse input. But, despite not planning on entering this time, and not being able to draw, I’m quite satisfied with my entry. You can find it here.

Oh, and here’s one of the randomly generated title screens:

Yup. Still can’t draw.

I think I’m about done….

…..Thanks to an all nighter held right after my parent’s anniversary party. I just hope I wake up in time to submit!

I ended up making a top down game where the objectives and layout change every 10 seconds. I was strongly inspired by Warioware. I can’t draw to save my life, but maybe the color-changing sprites will be cool enough that people won’t notice. (Yeah, right.)

Obligatory screenshots:

Overall, given that I wasn’t planning on participating at all, I’m satisfied. Now, I sleep.

I wasn’t gonna participate this time, but….

This theme has already gotten my creative juices flowing. I’ll see what I can come up with, even if I can’t do work on this the whole weekend.

I’ll be streaming most of my development here. Come say hi!

Edit:

Forgot to say what tools I’m using:

Code: Game Maker: Studio:

Art: Game Maker Studio/ Sprite Something for iOS

Sound: SFXR

Music: I’m not sure yet :/

I did it!

I thought I would have to give up! Earlier today I posted that I was giving up due to a crash, but I persevered and made a workaround! I’ve submitted with just less than a hour to go. Here’s my entry. Good luck to all of you!

Gonna have to give up for now…

So, I made some decent progress. I have the bare bones of a game in which you place enemies in an overworld to try and defeat the hero in RPG combat. Here are some pictures:

Trouble is, after the hero defeats all of the enemies in a desert battle, the game crashes, and I’ve spent all of my development time today trying to figure out why, to no avail. If you still want to try what I have, crash-ridden as it is, the executable can be found here and the source code (Gamemaker studio) here.

Good luck to everyone else, and I’ll probably see you next Ludum Dare.

Edit: I MAY have discovered a workaround. Better crunch like hell!

Let’s do this!

So, this is my second Ludum Dare, and while I didn’t do all that badly my first time, I told myself I’d prepare this time. So here’s my setup, complete with plenty of snacks of questionable healthfulness.

I’m gonna be streaming over on twitch so feel free to come say hi, if you’re not working on your own entry, which you probably will be.

Good luck everyone!

Finally! An excuse to finish something!

So, a couple of months ago, I started work on what I hope to be my first iOS App Store release. It’s called A Blob Well Done, and right now it looks pretty ugly:

That said, I’m working with an artist now, and I should have a much nicer looking screenshot by Monday! It’s sort of RTS, but the units (Blobs) are generated in stats and appearance by what ingredients the user puts into them.

I told myself I’d finish this game before I started anything else. I hope that wasn’t a lie.

My Ludum Dare 19 Entry So Far

So, after hearing about this “Ludum Dare” in the past months through Twitter, I looked it up to find out that it was A) Awesome and B) Already in progress. So I joined in. I quickly prototyped part of an idea, and set to work:

This is one of those "OH CRAP HE'S RIGHT THERE!" moments.

Ping to Reveal your surroundings!

And the (admittedly somewhat lame) Title Screen:

What is that stuff, anyway?

Eww, mouse handwriting.

What are these mysterious red drawings?

I think it's trying to tell us something......

What IS that stuff?

So, yeah. I’ve got 3 levels so far, and I’m hoping it’ll turn out well.  It’s being developed in Game Maker 8 (if you couldn’t tell). Lemme know what you think!
