Hello everyone and I wish you all (a late) Merry Christmas!

I have read some of my comments that my game is almost impossible hard but I don’t think so because they must have missed the gimmick of my game.
So now I have made a walkthrough of my game here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bfI1BiOLhE

And if you want to play my game Screen Mover you can do it

100 games in

A fun and interesting puzzle game where you must move the windows to arrow to make the character move in the right direction.

birdsong by Managore

Screen Mover Post-mortem

So I made a game this Ludum Dare called Screen Mover and this will be a short post about it.

Screen Mover is a game where you as the player must move the screen to see more the level and solve puzzles. The solving of the puzzles is mostly around the idea that only the objects in view are updated.

When I woke up on the first day and looked at the theme I couldn’t think of any game that I wanted to do with the theme “Entire Game on Single Screen”. I thought about to for some hours and gave up. I almost gave up on this Ludum Dare but later that day this idea came to mind, “You must move the screen” so I started coding so that you could move the screen to see more of the level and that was about the first day.

The next day I started to work on the level but soon found out that moving the screen did not exactly do anything to the gameplay except limiting the view. Then I came up with that only the things that are inside the screen at the time will update. With that I could build some kind of puzzles. So for rest of that day I fixed the level and then sent it in.

What went right

  • I managed to create a game 😀
  • The execution of the idea went well.

What went… less right

  • I couldn’t figure out how to move the screen and the player at the same time until after the deadline (see my post compo version for that)
  • The graphics, sounds, etc.
  • The amount of actual game/gameplay. You can beat my game in about 1 minute.

And once again if you missed the giant link to my game. Play it HERE

And done

And I’m done!

I present to you Screen Mover (yes another badly named game by me)
A very simple platform game with a difference screen mechanic. YOU drag the screen all over the place to see more of the level.
More information and play the game here  http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-31/?action=preview&uid=14496

Probably done or soon… Need a name for this game

Now I have a small level with some game mechanics and sounds.

Here is a short video showing a part of the game (recommending watching in fullscreen)

All I need now is a name for the game… And I have no clue what to name it 😛

Getting in late, but i have some progress

Here i am a bit late (or almost 16 hours or so)

My tools

Language: Java
IDE: Eclipse
Graphics: None, only Java Graphics
Sound: If any. Bfxr

This is what I have so far (recommends fullscreen to see any)
The basic idea is a platformer with a little difference.  You must move the little window to see more of the level and everything that is not in view will not be updated.
What I must do next is to add some more mechanics and make puzzles so it becomes some kind of game 😛

Now with only 12 hours to go i must add a leveling system or a shop for upgrades, making waves, a boss, more sound, music, maybe powerups, and actually art if i have time 😛

First day done

So now my first day is ending. I managed to work maybe 5 hours in total today because of some things i had to do and watch a movie with my little brother.

What i have done is the basic idea and because i lack imagination i haven’t done anything directly fancy or advanced.

Basically what i’m doing is a top down shooter with 2 dimensions. The player is attacked by enemies from both  dimensions but can only attack 1 dimensions at the same time so the player has the abillity to change dimensions but so has some of the enemies.

So far my graphics are… squares just squares. (I wish i could draw good)

Here is a small video featuring 3 enemy types and switching between dimensions. The switching between dimensions really need some kind of feedback like a small explosion.

I’m in! (hopefully)

This time i will be doing Ludum Dare for my fourth time! I had some bad timing with the last Ludum Dare a couldn’t participate, but this time i’m sure i have time.

My tools i will be using, i think

  • Engine: Unity
  • IDE: MonoDevelop
  • Language: C#
  • “Graphics”: Paint.NET and/or Photoshop
  • SFX: Bfxr, cgMusic

My top 5 so far

Now after i have played and rated 50 games i think it is time for my top 5 so far in no order

The only one

What can i say. Good game, great graphics and music and got a good story and implemented the theme in a good way.

Duke Dashington

Very good graphics and music, only problem, little to short. I want more! 😛

10 Seconds Before the World Ends

Good implementation of the theme and fun.

Survival Madness

Good, addictive and challenging game with good graphics and sounds

Boxer’s Seconds

This game is here more of the way the theme was implemented (and the graphics) but it is still quite fun to play and has similarities with Papers, Please

And now for a shameless promotion of my game ^^

Space TimeX10

All i can say, the name is VERY bad 😛

Any game you think i should play? Have i missed your favorite game? Or perhaps any masterpiece?

Yes the name is bad 😛 My game:  http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=14496

Now for my postmortem where i will tell what went right and wrong, good and bad.

  • Finished the game in time. (Always a good thing ^^)
  • Graphics that are something else than squares and lines and circles (More on this on the bad part :P)
  • I did my best to realize my idea and it went pretty good.
  • Had a fun first day making the game.
  • I made a timelapse for first time 😀

  • The graphics went from okay to quite bad 😛
  • My code isn’t the cleanest…
  • Lost most motivation second day.

ss (2013-08-25 at 11.54.54)

And my timelaspe.
According to my timelaspe i had 4123 images taken with an interval of 10 seconds and with some basic math the result is i have worked on the game on about 12 hours.

And a timelapse video

A timelapse of me doing my game :)

Done! You can find my entry here http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-27/?action=preview&uid=14496

I am not very happy with the result. I had a blast the first day but the second day i was just, not in the mood.

Anyhow i finished the game and that i’m happy about but it is problably very unbalanced and not so funny. ^^;
