Initial gamedesign

Finished the initial game design, working on mock graphics currently.

Next up, coding the prototype, should be done sometime this afternoon if i can avoid interruptions.  :)

Time to make something convoluted!
i am going to switch i up this time around,  3D space and multiplayer, which i do not usually do. :)

What could possibly go wrong?!

Also i might do the jam instead this time around to see how much polish i can throw at it, but it is most likely going to depend on how much time i have left in the end. :)

I am all prepped and ready, i am gonna focus on content this time around.
only negative is i could not get my live stream going, i am doing screenshots instead which i will turn into a movie afterwards :)

Game over, post jam thoughts

So i finished my game yestoday:

Going back i would do a few things different, namely ‘time management’ related as i did not get all the features i wanted but it basically works so i am happy.

Building this game i got a bunch of ideas for a standard game lib i should build up and also some additions/changes to my current homebrew-libraries that i am using which should improve my productivety. Also i need to be less picky about my graphics and prioitise features 😛 i spend waaay to much time on graphics still since i am not very good at pixel graphics… yet. Something that bothered me was that i did not have time dor audio tho, oh well there is always next time! :)

But enough reflection, i had a rocking weekend and i very likely gonna do some post jam development on my game to add some more features i had in mind,

I am making slow but steady progress, i need to fix pathfing and enemy AI and a bunch of other stuff, and i only have about 9 hours left!

Or 4 hours actually i am putting a deadline to 9’o clock stuff needs to be done by then so i have good time for tweaking, whatever features i have at that point i will work with.

Phew Finaly got over my fake z-index hurdle… :I
Spend 4 hours fixing this bug, onto making some features!!

The game is getting along tho, controlls and editor are in place, and so is basic art/design.

Still got a good amount of work left tho, shooting and hitting needs to be implemented and then i gotta get to design some monsters.

On top of that i  need to implement dialog and and the 10 second random events…

I hope i have enough time ^^’

So far so good i got some graphics going, and a idea, basically you have to maintain a dimension reactor, every 10 seconds it will throw random events at you which you have to handle and then it resets time.

So to win the game you must fix the reactor completely to get unstuck from the timeloop you are in.

The random events include dimension shifts, monsters, speed handicaps etc.

Fun fun fun!

I am gonne be participating this time around with a makeshift 2D library i put together, hopefully i will be able to use it.

The library allows me to create levels in Tiled, do simple conversations, it has Nape physics integrated into it and a few other goodies :)

In about 5 hours i will have used 48 hours (i am offset a bit in time due to timezones).
These last few hours i am going to be focusing on level design, i have been building my project around the Tiled editor up til now, so i have all the features i need for now.

This is how my screen will look for some time :)

I added music to my game, it gives it another feel, it might be a bit too heavy/depressing, i will work with that… :I

Also i added some character animations, next up i need to add some player dialog, still working on how to best implement it.

On another note MelonJS has been a pleasure to work with so far, despite that i am still not 100% sure i like the workflow.

Work is proceeding as plann.. eh okay i am mocking about.
However mocks are working excellent  for the first canvas game i have ever done this is going brilliant.
