WO-HOO! The game is done and online!

So this was my first Ludum Dare! It was awesome! I didn’t think that I would get the game done so quickly, usually it takes me months or weeks, but something was different this weekend.

The game has 20 levels and a bossfight and should keep you busy for a while.

I don’t want to bore you with long talk (if you want some, read the notes 😉 ), but show you the game right now:

Launching Fireworks!

Hey! I wanted to let you guys know about my idea and development-progress so far!


You’re a weird guy, really loving fireworks! But every year you don’t manage to get your fireworks setup on time, but always have to do it in the last ten seconds. Sounds a bit silly and it certainly is, but I think it suits the humour this game will have and turned out great to code so far.

What you will do is run around your garden and smash the ‘X’ key at one of the spots marked with flags to place a firework. You will have to jump and avoid obstacles, aswell as some other things and people… Between every year you will have the chance to buy fancy stuff from the shop, depending on how well you did.


Things went surprisingly smooth! :)

The menu is done, kept it simple there, the main game is running and designing levels works well, too. I got the tutorial done with some instructions. The art is mainly consisting of placeholders, except for the player. I managed to create a customization-screen where someone can adjust the players hair and even give him several beards, I really liked testing that out myself and create weird looking pixel-people! And the first rockets are already flying! Wo-hoo! But unfortunately they just dissappear without a sound or effect right now, :( I will do my best to make it as spectacular as possible, for now I should get some sleep, I am making more and more mistakes. 😉


Two tracks are done now: A ten second track running at 200 bpm with double bass and crazy lead-melodies to give the player the feeling that he just MUST hurry, the second one is the exact opposite: Running calmly at only 60 bpm with a simple short easy melody with soft drums and bass, used for the menus.

Hey, people!

I’ve been working with flixel for about 1 1/2 years now and have been enjoying it a lot!

This will be my first competition ever. Usually it takes me weeks or months to finish a game but I really want to give this a try. :)

Depending on wether I will manage to disable all social activaties, get a good idea for the theme and get along with the time shift as someone living in the GMT +1 this might even work! If not I will just blame it on the others and… stuff… 😉

  • Music: pxtone
