What are tiles? What are pixels? Seriously though, I don’t think I’ll have time to make this into some fine pixel art. So now they’re just half-painted backgrounds. Everything looks nice zoomed in, at least, but it would be better as pixel art…ah well. And I kind of dropped the ball on textures and just copy-pasted the wall from the exterior when I needed one ‘ v’ . Shhh…

1 2 3 4

I’m realizing more and more that I don’t have time to do everything I want (which isn’t much to start with!). So it will be reduced to a single boss and some fetch quests. That way, I can get all the animations I want in. I hope… I have no idea what I’m doing, so that’s how it is. Oh crap…I need to think of a name.

Concept 100% Completed

Well, I know exactly what I’m doing over the next few days. And tonight will be spent entirely spriting the main character, npcs, and environments. Shouldn’t be too crazy. You can see the four environments (wow, so many) below.

The unconventional weapons are: a baseball bat, a bear trap, a fishing rod, and a locket. All of them have souls trapped inside that aid you in battle. You could also give them to the man downstairs, if you like. But I don’t recommend it. It will be a golden sun/zelda/top down isometric rpg. There is no leveling or anything, you just fight the bosses with what souls you have. Yeah…here’s hoping ‘ v’ + .

If I have extra time, I’ll put in some nice lighting.

Time to play again! I plan on using this as an opportunity to learn Unity. Thus, a lot of my streams will contain the tutorials of others as I struggle along. I don’t know what type of game I will make, but I imagine it will be fun, at least :9 . I’m really conflicted as to whether I’ll be working in 2D or 3D, since I just figured out how to make 3D models properly. Obviously, this will be a jam entry and not a compo entry.
I’m not planning on losing this one, but I don’t think I will haveĀ  a game complete by the end, simply because I’ll have no idea what I’m doing. But, since my only completed game (Pictor) had a similar setup, maybe learning as I go is the only way for me to win. Who knows? Anyways, that’s what I’m up to. See you guys in a few hours.

Going to Start Streaming Again~

First, I’ll be doing code. Then, once that frustrates me, I’ll be making the sprite sheets for these cool beasts:

The art style is supposed to mimic mosaics. Yep. That’s the excuse for now. Click here to view the stream~!

Warmup Weekend Starts~

This will be my second Ludum Dare, and my first building from the ground up! I only just became comfortable with java, so this will be my first time using it for a game – v- ; . Graphics will be from SAI, Photoshop, Tiled, and Pyxel Edit (a maybe for those last two). No idea how to do sound effects yet, we’ll see if I know by next weekend! Language is, of course, Java. I’ll probably be peeking over at my cheat sheet for the basics during warm up weekend.

I’m starting the stream with some painting, to help with ideas -v – ; . You can catch me on http://www.twitch.tv/redstone_dust !

I’m not worried about the competition/winning bit of this event. I kind of just wanted to make a game. Forcing myself to add stuff after I finished it, for the most part, feels kind of dumb. Especially with a theme like Minimalism (which encourages MINIMAL features and art). Hopefully next Ludum Dare, I will be able to make my own engine. Hopefully! Thanks for having me, and I will see you guys next season c: ~!

Everyone and their mom decided it was time to wake me up. Four hours of sleep is not a nice thing, but it will have to do. I’m active on my stream again~. Today’s goal is to finish all (or most) of the programming as well as focus on art assets. I might be able to do a second stage, but I kind of doubt it…

Resuming the stream.

Streaming! o _o ; http://www.twitch.tv/redstone_dust

Minimalism is a really weird theme and I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO INCORPORATE IT INTO THE PLOT.

And also first time putting together a game. I hope I’ll be able to do well in this contest. I still have a Christmas list of things to learn. They are as follows:

Things I Still Need to Learn:

  • Enemy AI & Entity Movement (other than the player’s)
  • Saved Values (!)
  • Custom Actions (double jump, combos, weapons, etc)
  • Specific Animations for Unique Settings (death animation, attack animation, etc)
  • Fonts and Dialogue
  • Slow Background Scrolling
  • How to Export Source Code from MMF2?

The list grows every day – v- ; . And now for the details of what tools I’ll be using.

  • Notepad
  • Multimedia Fusion Developer 2
  • Photoshop
  • Paint Tool Sai ()
  • FL Studio (music)
  • …and Filezilla, for uploading :9
  • Probably a few MIDI editors this site links

I’m excited to see what comes out of this Ludum Dare. The themes I like so far are Dreams, Lost, Seasons, Beneath the Surface, Ecosystem, Erosion, Forgotten Places, One Shot, and Replication. Please vote for them if you like them! c:

EDIT: And I also did a warmup game! Check it out over here: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-26-warmup/?action=preview&uid=20856
