Okay I finally finished my project! It was fun, but I seriously need some sleep now 😀 I don’t have the power to write more, all the necessary informations are in the link before.

Scoring – Project: Ad Hoc Novel

Okay, so I was brainstorming through hours and hours how the hell should I score the player’s creation. Since it’s a short competition and I want to target the “just having some fun” principle rather than “earning scores” I decided to make the whole scoring just a flavour text , at least for now.

Flavour text score system, for now at least

The project’s core is almost done. After it’s finished, I’ll spend the rest of the time filling the game with a lot of texts and options, so it can be… (oh no don’t say it) …a… (i’m gonna say it) …rogue-like (i said it..) due to the game’s random nature.

Depending on the processing speed of the stuffs said above, i’m planning some playstyle-modifiers in the game as well. Like in Recettear, the game says randomly “The price of the iron swords decreased” etc. so Icould make something like “the interest towards the romantic novels are increased”. But this have to affect the scoring system so this is why i’m delaying it for now.

Halfway through – Project: Ad Hoc Novel

I’m halfway through the game’s development and i just realized that i’m violating the rules of the 48hrs competition, so i have to enter the 72hrs one, but that’s okay: more time, more quality work :)

About my game: Without many spoilers i want to give you the basic idea, what you have to do in my game:

  • The world is in so much rush, the people don’t have time to read books longer than 10 seconds. You are a newbie book-writer. You have to prove your skills in 10 days to the world. (You have more than 10s to write the books, don’t worry)
  • The game randomizes a story for the player using the selected inputs
  • The player can write their own stuff into the missing fields using their keyboards
  • They can read the whole ~10 second long story at the end of the day as well as giving them a title and an author

This is what i have so far, i still need to put some way to score the books and give points to the player.

After 2-3 hours of development

Currently the game’s look

I don’t want to show the rest of the game yet, maybe in the next post 😉

I just woke up, it’s 7am here and i just saw the topic. I wasn’t a big fan of it in the first run, but i have a pretty decent idea about the topic now which may be unusual in many ways but i’ll give it a try.

Although it will be a mostly (or entirely i’m not sure yet) a text-based game i’ll make it in Unity3D with Javascript because that is the most familiar i’m with. It may be like shooting sparrows with a cannon, but oh well.

Good luck to everyone who already started their game, and of course who haven’t started yet!
