Finally know what I want to do

So, I finally have an idea of what I want to do. It’s a little late, but I feel like I can still pull something off in the next 8 hours.

The real work start now.

A day later and…

Nothing  has gone the way I planned.

I intended to go 24 hours straight, instead I got sidetracked a few hours into the jam and actually went to bed.

Today wasn’t much better, the only positive is that I now know the bare basics of pyglet.

Bad news: I still don’t know what I actually want to make, and my git repository is sadly still empty. Not a single line written yet for the game.

Here is the link the the repository: https://github.com/SagarPatel/LudumDare22

Hopefully I’ll settle on an idea soon and actually get something done.

Taking a break

It’s just past midnight here and I’m starting to feel sleepy. Can’t afford to go to bed though, since I have about 20 hours left on my self imposed deadline.

Going to take a little break, play some Dota 2 and continue watching/listening to Stephen Fry on QI.

Don’t have anything specific in mind for the game yet, still continuing the pyglet tutorial, here is a screenshot:

Learning pyglet and cxfreeze

Still going through a pyglet tutorial, seems pretty straightforward so far.

Got text and sprites on screen within minutes.

I actually lost about an hour trying to find a way to turn my python game into a .exe anf getting that to work.

Got it working, using cxfreeze.

Most of my time was wasted trying to make cxfreeze work, kept on getting errors. Later found out that I should just install the 32 bit version, even though I’m running Win 7 64 bit.

Worked on the first try after installing the 32 bit version.

Tools Chosen

Alright here is what I’m going to be using:

Language:    Python

Lib:            Pyglet

Text Editor: Sublime Text 2

Not sure about what I’ll use for sprites, probably PowerPoint 2007 (it’s surprisingly useful)

So I haven’t done any Python in over 2 years. The first and last time I used it for was an internship where I doing data parsing, although I looove Python

I’m going through this tutorial right now: http://www.steveasleep.com/pyglettutorial/2

Hopefully I’ll have something playable in the next few hours.

I’m in (first Ludum Dare!)

First Ludum Dare ever!

I’m only giving myself 24 hours to complete my game though. Still have one more final exam (COEN 317 Microprocessor Systems!) left next week and I pretty much have to learn everything from scratch.

Still trying to figure out which tools to use, I definitely want to try something new this time, i.e. not XNA.

Top candidate right now is Python + Pygame , which I’ve never done, but it’s Python!

Fallback plan could be GameMaker, which I’ve never done either, but might be the better option since I’m only giving myself 24 hours to finish the game.

I’ll post again once the theme is announce, at which point I’ll have to finalize my tools choice.
