My first thoughts are geometric shapes and Animorphs. Reminder not to stop at the first few ideas, keep brainstorming!Montessori-game-Baby-educational-toys-children-old-thirteen-hole-intelligence-box-shape-building-block-toy-giftanimorphs-books-movie

Malldusa, daughter of Medusa

I’m making an arcade maze / puzzle game where you play as Malldusa, trendy teen daughter of Medusa, as she shops from store to store, avoiding mall cops and trying not to get herself stuck between a rock and last seasons fashions.Malldusa

Alpha version 2 complete

Alpha version 2 of my game is complete. I’ve added the main gameplay element and lose condition.

My concept is an arcade maze game where you play as Medusa, kind of like a simplified reverse Bomberman.

I’ve finished a playable prototype!

Complete with collision detection, win condition, sound effects, and re-play feature. Also the level is being generated from an image.

It’s playable! Try it out!

First thoughts on the theme

Arcade style game.Good scope, re-playable,  lots of tutorials online for places to start. Tough to differentiate your game among the plethora of arcade games out there.

Put all the game on screen, literally. Visualize all the inner workings of the code, the buffer, the event handling, the AI, everything. Put the entire game on screen.

Anti-theme game concept: Game on too many screens.

Force the player to play across multiple screens, maybe browser windows plus smart phone(s). Make the screens a game mechanic. Using a browser extension based HTML5 game you should be able to track window and tab positioning.

I’m leaning towards an arcade game for simplicity so I can take the time to polish and juice it up.

Code: C++, Oxygine, Emscripten, Visual Studio, NotePad++

Visuals: Paint.NET, GraphicsGale, Illustrator

Audio:  Bfxr, Musagi, Audacity

First time using Oxygine, hopefully it plays nice and the cross-platform building works. Worst case is just a Windows build, best case is Windows and Web.

Workstation prepared and example projects are building.

Good luck and have fun.

And now for something completely different!

Unhappy and dead in the water on my first attempt, I’ve decided to start over with something totally different! As of now, with 14 hours remaining, I am starting a new game, something very Pokemon-esque.

I’m in. First time

I’m in. I think I might be able to put in around 20 hours. Hopefully that will be enough to create a full vertical slice of a game. This is my first LudumDare so I’m just going to relax, have fun, and try to finish something. This will also be first time writing a game in HTML5, though I do have a lot of JavaScript experience so I don’t think it will be to difficult. I’m interested in seeing just how far I can push Canvas and HTML5

Code: HTML5, JavaScript, and my own simple game engine.

IDE: Aptana Studio

Visuals: Paint.NET, Photoshop, Illustrator, AI->Canvas

Audio:  Bfxr, MilkyTracker, Audacity, and maybe some home recordings using my piano or guitar

I’ll be developing against the current Chrome release and probably won’t have time to test against other browsers. Depending on performance I may package my game as a Chrome extension.

Good luck and have fun.
