Damn you unity lightmaps

It is done.

I’m using all unity standard assets, I have stolen pictures of furniture from Ikea website, light maps are broken. But the game is done.

Still,聽as it’s gonna be a jam entry anyways, I might wait with publishing it till tomorrow. With some luck I won’t come back from work completely tired, and I’ll be able to do something with this stock unity car, and maybe I’ll record some 30 seconds music loop.

Anybody knows what this can be?

Those artifacts show up only after lightmap baking.

Instead of failing, this year I decided to fool around deliberately

I don’t know anything about blender modelling, so what? I didn’t feel like coding this time, so I’ve loaded聽all them standard assets into unity and look, there was this nice car. Micro machines it is!

Decisions had to be made.

As someone who only touches gamedev during game jams, I should have known by now that I have no idea how all this stuff works. But, after first day I do have some progress.

Another thing is caffeine. Upon hitting 1am I wasn’t in state to work anymore (though there’s still so much to be made, and I’m talking about adding game-critical features), but after all this mate drinks I was also in no state to sleep…

Still, I want to finish this one, and by finish I mean to Finish – during LD34 I made a fully finished game in little over 12 hours, but it was lightcycles clone. This one might have stupid gameplay in mind, it it’s something I came up with myself. Yet there’s so much to do – finish the coding, then came up with level design, then add the music, then add gui if there’s still something that requires it, then maybe draw some textures (I keep my priorities where my skills are).

This is why, not without a doubt, I decided not to aim for a compo deadline, instead going for jam entry.

Let’s be completely honest here…

There’s absolutely no way ancient Egyptians would build those monument by themselves. It’s not like they had vast, powerful and wealthy civilization. And specialised labour was only invented after 1994, right?

To those who still have no idea what to do

Two ideas I distarded, maybe there’s somebody who still has no idea what to work on (I know, I once got an idea 12 hours before deadline) who’d like them. Go with a jam then and make me an executive producer 馃槢

1. Cavemen internet
2. Cavemen racing (so original)

ad1 – First person view, you stand at the middle of a cave, people throw their “data packets” at you; you check them and throw them to correct “apartment”. Each stone/packet has a picture of a destination (symbol above the entrance), index (so you throw them in correct order if you have a backlog) and a letter of the message. At the end of a day, you get a list of all messages received (not messages sent though, so don’t make mistakes if you want to eavesdrop).

ad2 – First person view as well. First you have to push your cart on a hill (pretty straightforward), then jump on your vehicle (before it escapes!), get through obstacle course (without losing speed) and make an awesome jump. Time attack.

Ok. I’m back to my idea no.3 (tbf I find the internet thing the most interesting, but it imho requires some nice, readable graphics design – something I cannot provide)

Well then, time to start work on LD35.

So it’s done.

Standalone versions are being uploaded as we speak. My simple clone of TRON is done and submitted.
Play it while it’s fresh!

Ludum Depression

Posted by

I don鈥檛 know what is happening. There are two themes, one of which was my favourite, and yet I can鈥檛 feel the flow of it.
My first idea, that I started working on was patapon style strategy, where you use one button to switch bowmen and swordsmen, and second button to call for shields. I even have plan and everything, yet I couldn鈥檛 get into it and I ended up sleeping whole day with a ludum depression.

So now I opened up Studio One (free version I found out exists yesterday) and by the sound of it I鈥檒l be working on a quick TRON clone. Well, this would be fitting, as clone of Tron was the first game I ever made in Turbo Pascal (I鈥檓 not even sure if I ever seen a Tron game when I made it; it was pre internet and while I knew the movie, there was no game arcades around).

PS. Don’t mind my attention hog.

Eyes so sore…
