Hey LD, it’s been a long…

It’s been a year since I wasn’t able to participate, this time, I’m definitely IN !

I’ll use :

  • vim/C++ with my opengl lib mehteor (its full of a dust there!),
  • gimp / inkscape,
  • bfxr and garage band.

Hoping to deliver an entry for Linux/Mac/Windows ! See ya soon on the IRC.

It’ll be a [24h;36h] participation for many reasons, but I can’t wait to participate, as I now have a ready multi-platforms OpenGL engine prepared for this LD !

Tools:

  • Code: vim/C++ with my engine¬†mehteor
  • SFX: sfxr/bfxr
  • Music: probably something in the Ludum Dare’s tools list
  • Graphics: The Gimp

Last LD, my weakness had been to deal with the builds problems for Windows and Mac at the last moment (as I use Linux). I finally gave up to build executable for these systems… This time, I’m ready!

For my previous entry, I’ve used my own library (meh2d, based upon Allegro 5) but I had troubles when I wanted to cross-compile an executable for Windows. I’ve learnt from my mistakes and developed another library using only SDL/OpenGL/OpenAL (actually, the OpenAL part isn’t even started, I plan to do it before the LD). But this time, it is ready (using CMake) to be built for Linux and Windows! You can find it here.
Tools

  • code: C++ (vim, CMake, g++, MingW), targetting Linux and Windows
  • graphics: gimp
  • audio: bfxr, PixelBlitz, Audacity

It’ll be my third participation and I can’t wait to start ! Have fun!

For my second try to participate to a Ludum Dare, I’ve finally succeed to submit something and I’m actually happy with the final result !

Galactic Taxi

Obviously, some features are missing, for example I was hoping to add extra-points for quick-delivery but right now, I think I can’t see any C++ line for at least 12hours.

The build is only for 64bits Linux-distributions which have Allegro 5 in their repository : it means not a lot. I should do something about that on the next days, and I’ll try to do a Windows build for Tuesday 24.

Now, I can’t wait to test other games!

LD23 – Day 2

I just woke up, 8 hours of sleep which were really needed, which left me with around 16 hours to finish…

About the theme: the galaxy is composed of many many tiny worlds, each world are populated by humans. But their problem : with the expansion of the galactic internet, they meet friends and family from other Tiny Worlds and so the need for transport between these worlds increased. This is why you’ve created a brand-new service : the galactic taxis. You are one of these galactic taxi-driver and you must transport people from world to world in a certain amount of time while avoiding meteorits and other fragments. Also, be sure to not kill them while they try to enter in your taxis or while landing on their world…

That’s it for my idea. I wasn’t able to work full time the first day and so today I only have : the taxis and its controls, the space generation (stars background, worlds with building on top of them), the customers. I hopefully may have the whole second day to work on it.

What is missing : the gameplay (customer waiting for the player, time, arrow indicating the direction), fragments to avoid and other obstacles, a menu,  sounds, more graphics.

It will be my second try but my first entry as I didn’t submit the result last time, I wasn’t happy enough with the result…

I’ll use g++/vim with my own little framework upon Allegro 5 (meh2d), the gimp, bfxr, probably pixelblitz and maybe my instruments for a background song.

Finally after something like 16 hours of work, it now looks like a game.

It has been realised with Qt and its QPainter class.
I’ve wasted a lot of time with collisions which gave me a lot troubles. For now, I have :

  • Levels read from files,
  • Animated sprites,
  • Objects which can be picked up,
  • A text area,
  • Enemies (CLOWNS!),
  • 4 levels.

I now need to add more levels, some sounds, more graphics (kittens?), the possibility to lose by touching a clown and an end to the game.
I don’t think I’ll submit it as it is not really fun to play, just challenging, but I’ll try to go as far as I can.

Note for myself: next time, use an existing engine.

It’ll be my first entry to LD! I’ll use Java/gimp/mtpaint/sfxr and another app, I don’t know which one, for the music.

Edit: I’ve changed my mind and I’ll go with C++/Qt/OpenAL for the code! (and pixelblipz for the music)
