Hey guys,

1. I just updated my entry page with a downloadable PC version for those who were having trouble with the web version.  I didn’t make any changes to the game code or anything so both web and PC versions are identical.

2. Thanks for everyone who commented and gave suggestions! I really appreciate it! Hopefully sometime in the near future we’ll have a much more fleshed out version for you guys!

Most Ambitious LD24 Game? – Post Mortem

The Game: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-24/?action=preview&uid=15333

I feel this was probably the most ambitious game of the Ludum Dare 24 Jam. There was so much I wanted to do;  story telling (via voice acting), custom sound and music, “Xenogears” style graphics and multiplayer. As you can probably guess it didn’t all make it in and here’s why…

I originally wanted to add more adventure game elements in the beginning of the game  to add more to the story. I wanted to really sell the post apocalyptic atmosphere and tell the story but I kind of like how it turned out even without everything I wanted in it. It kind of leaves the story more open to interpretation I think.

The idea behind the graphic were that we could save time by having one person do the backgrounds and another do the characters and enemies. This actually worked out pretty well. The problem came in the finer details where a lot animations that we planned to do for presentation sake had to get cut out (such as the evolving enemy animation). So it may be hard for the player to tell whats going on at times when they play.

A lot of time was put into the presentation of the game rather than the gameplay . Because of this I didn’t have time to factor in  player death nor  The multiplayer code, despite it being close to finished.  I agree with one of the commenters that there is a lack of feedback in the fx and sound department and its simply because we were way too ambitious with everything.

There are literally only 2 sound effects in the game (explosions and gunfire). Everything else is music and Voice acting. If it weren’t for the help I had with the sound there probably wouldn’t be any sound what so ever in the game.  After programming in all of the graphics and animations there wasn’t much time for anything else besides gameplay (which is obviously the most important part of a game)

I think this turned out pretty good but this being my first Ludum Dare I know next time that you definitely have to think much smaller or you’ll kill yourself trying to make something too ambitious and be somewhat disappointed when it doesnt quite meet your vision. I hope you guys still like it though!

Of course feel free to leave comments and let me know what you think it could improve upon :D!  Thanks!
